Position: Creative Director

Status: Full-time (Exempt Position)

Reports to: Vice President of Marketing


JOB SUMMARY

The Creative Director provides strategic and creative leadership for Visit Buffalo’s brand, overseeing the development of compelling visual and storytelling assets across marketing, sales, and digital channels. This role sets creative direction, ensures brand consistency, and partners closely with marketing leadership to translate strategy into high-impact creative execution.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and set creative direction for Visit Buffalo’s brand across all visual and creative assets.
  • Oversee creative direction, design, and execution for marketing campaigns and initiatives, in collaboration with Visit Buffalo’s advertising agency of record.
  • Manage and mentor creative team members, providing guidance, feedback, and professional development.
  • Ensure consistent and effective application of brand standards across all channels and touchpoints.
  • Manage and oversee budgets for creative production, including video, photography, and print, ensuring high-quality output while optimizing resources and maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with marketing, communications, and external partners to align creative output with strategic goals.
  • Develop and manage a strategic visual content and asset roadmap, ensuring a robust library of photography, video, and design assets to support marketing, sales, and PR needs.
  • Identify and prioritize content capture opportunities across the destination, coordinating photo and video shoots to support ongoing and future campaigns.
  • Review and approve creative work to ensure quality, accuracy, and brand alignment.
  • Collaborate with sales, sports, and marketing teams to develop compelling creative assets that support visitation, meetings, and event recruitment efforts.
  • Manage workflows, timelines, and priorities across multiple creative projects.
  • Coordinate with external agencies, freelancers, and vendors as needed.
  • Contribute to campaign planning, brainstorming, and strategic discussions as a senior creative voice.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Seven or more years of experience in creative, graphic design, or marketing roles, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
  • Strong creative vision with expert-level understanding of design, typography, color, and composition.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and deliver high-quality creative work on deadline.
  • Experience collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and related creative tools.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.


WORK CONDITIONS

  • Hybrid work schedule: four (4) days (Monday-Thursday) in office and one (1) day (Friday) remote (hybrid schedule is subject to change).
  • Some local travel may be required. Access to personal vehicle, valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance are required.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
  • Physical demands may include sitting, bending, and lifting up to 35 pounds.

COMPENSATION FOR THIS POSITION: $70,000 PER YEAR AND COMPREHENSIVE BENEFIT PACKAGE.
