The Class Instructor is responsible for providing programs that will meet the goals of the Older Adult Center. VISIONS Older Adult Center is funded by the NYC Department of Aging (DFTA) and other sources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Plan and lead workshops and/or classes for blind and visually impaired seniors/tenants at VISIONS Older Adult Center at Selis Manor in areas of arts which can include but are not limited to music, beading, jewelry, paper crafts, drawing, painting, drawing, clay work, creative writing etc.
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit participants' work for the center and the community.
- Create an atmosphere where all participants are engaged, have fun, are safe, and work collectively as a team
- Ensure that information is in accessible format (braille, large print or audio) for participants in the classes.
- Prepare and arrange art materials and art equipment in the classroom for students to use and put them away afterwards. Ensure that the classroom is neat and organized when the session is over.
- Recruit new and current participants to participate in VISIONS classes. Must ensure that classes maintain an average attendance of five participants.
- Provide VISIONS staff with written lessons plans/agendas for all classes and workshops.
- Any new classes/workshops must be approved by the supervisor
- Responsible for advertising the classes.
- Maintain attendance records for the classes.
- Perform other related tasks as required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma required. Must be able to speak, read and write English. Experience in leading groups is preferred. Demonstrated excellence in a variety of art techniques. Experience working with older adults is a plus.
SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY:
Comfortable speaking in front of groups, attention to detail, ability to work independently and multi-task, ability to interact with staff and volunteers, must be a self-starter, well organized and a team player. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and ability to navigate the internet. Excellent record-keeping and verbal communication skills. Must be highly motivated, energetic and engaging. Must be able to work under stress and handle stressful situations.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
