General Description
Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the Property Staff Accountant will be responsible for journal entries, bank reconciliations, financial statement preparation, accounts receivable, and daily & monthly cash disbursements and receipts. This position is characterized by a high degree of initiative, creativity, responsibility, accountability, and the ability to work congenially with a wide variety of individuals inside and outside of the organization.
Essential Functions
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations of multi-family properties
Prepare month end and quarter end close for each respective property
Manage and complete general ledger journal entries and cash balances
Ensures accuracy of all general ledger information
Process accounts receivable and review accounts payable for each respective property
Issue tenant statements and supporting schedules
Responsible for bank reconciliations
Reviews Balance Sheets and Income Statements per property to verify account balances and
reasonable revenue and expense amounts
Set and update forecasts and budgets as well as provide detailed explanations of deviations from
budget based on specific materiality thresholds
Compile financial statements and portfolios for investors
Prepare monthly financial reports
Ensures that all property and tenant lease input information is up to date and correct
Updates and prepares annual depreciation and amortization schedules
Ensures reports/documents are forwarded to auditors and maintains applicable documentation
Informs management as to any discrepancies or any other problem areas that may exist that arise from the audit
Meets Accounting Department calendar deadlines
Improve processes related to above duties and responsibilities
Assists Community Managers with variance report included in monthly reporting package
Assists Community Managers with understanding overall financial performance and management of property
Maintains all tax and insurance schedules and verifies all payments are made as required
Assists with replacement and operating reserve requests
Performs other job-related duties as required or assignedProperty Staff Accountant
Knowledge & Experience:
Ability to work with others in establishing and meeting goals and objectives

Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in a process and make necessary adjustments
Excellent analytical skills
Good working knowledge of computers, including expertise in manipulating spreadsheets
Education:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or
3-5 years related experience and/or training in multi-family accounting; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Government/Non-Profit experience
Equipment and Software:
Experience with Accounting for Residential Real Estate
Experience with Yardi software a plus
Computer with Internet and email capabilities
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Google Apps (email, calender, docs, etc.)
Licenses/Certification:
CPA certification preferred, but not required
