Vision Integrated Partners has a fantastic job opportunity in our accounting sector. We are seeking an Controller to oversee our Kansas City market. This position is based on-site at our Discover Vision location in Independence, MO, with a 10% local travel to area clinic offices.
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for directing all of the fiscal functions of the Kansas City clinics, including forecasting, budgeting, accrual entries, accounts receivable, cash/AP management, and local tax filings. Ensures integrity and maintains financial accounting systems. Presents quarterly financials to executive leadership and partner physicians.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Financial Operations
- Develops and plans department objectives with Controller, VP of Finance, and staff, including short and long-range accounting programs in budgeting, profit analysis, accounting systems, and internal auditing.
- Directs financial accounting functions to ensure timely and accurate reporting of clinic financial information.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Ensures the timely payment of current liabilities to creditors, proper recording and control of cash receipts, recording of fixed assets, and development of adequate procedures, instructions, controls, records, and reports.
- Works with Controller to develop and approve financial statements, including balance sheets, profit/loss statements, and analysis of variances in accounts, ratios, income/expenses, and investment analysis, e.g. effects of fee changes on costs and profits, return on investment.
- Develops and monitors the internal audit program to ensure adequate internal financial controls. Oversees monthly review statements. Coordinates any audit activities or projects.
- Assists with the development and implementation of the annual capital and administrative budgets, as well as financial and credit policies of the clinics.
- Directs, forecasts, and analyzes the impact of special projects or new services and acquisitions, e.g. proposed facilities and equipment purchases.
- Assists the Controller and other management staff in the preparation of major clinic financial reports. Reviews and recommends new operating procedures.
- Develops, implements, and maintains accounting policies and procedures regarding patient accounts and reimbursements by patients, insurance, and other third-party payers.
- Directs the preparation of statistical information and reports for management, government, and other agencies.
- Assists with the selection and training of departmental personnel.
- Participates in performance evaluation and recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
- Attends various meetings with management and department staff to review and discuss financial matters.
- Maintains the strictest confidentiality.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant supporting the Kansas City market. Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings to ensure a smooth flow of communication, effective workflow, and follow-up on goals and objectives. Frequent communication with senior management regarding financial issues, banking, accounts receivable, and cash flow management is expected.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- B.S. in Finance/Accounting.
- 5-7 years of progressively responsible accounting management experience, including two years in a healthcare organization.
- Knowledge of accounting software and conversion process.
- Knowledge of clinical strategic business objectives is a plus.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply management principles.
- Knowledge of cash flow components.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Knowledge of local tax requirements.
- Knowledge of payroll process.
- Skill in research to learn and apply local, state, and federal laws.

Assistant Controller is expected to be onsite at the administrative office in Independence, MO. 10% local travel to other clinics within the Kansas City market for quarterly financial reviews and as needed.
