Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of optical products and services, providing exceptional customer service while assisting patients in selecting eyewear that meets their needs. This role requires a blend of technical skills and interpersonal abilities to ensure a positive experience for all clients. Must have basic knowledge of vision insurance, billing, and claims. Previous experience in an optometry or ophthalmology position is required.
Duties
- Educating patients on selecting eyeglasses based on their prescriptions and personal preferences.
- Conduct fittings and adjustments to ensure optimal comfort and functionality of eyewear.
- Maintain knowledge of current optical trends, products, and technologies to provide informed recommendations.
- Manage patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
- Process medical billing and coding for insurance claims related to optical services.
- Engage in retail management activities, including inventory control and sales tracking using retail math principles.
- Placing glasses orders with and without insurance benefits.
- Dispensing, repairing, and adjusting eyeglasses.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent telephone and customer service skills
- Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and follow schedules.
- Ability to work within a team setting and as an individual contributor.
- Willingness to cross-train in other aspects of the office.
Skills
- Strong background in Optical practices with an understanding of laboratory processes.
- Proficiency in medical coding and billing practices relevant to the optical field.
- Excellent sales skills with the ability to connect with customers and understand their needs.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
Education:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
Experience & Background:
- Experience in the optometry/ophthalmology field required (1 year minimum).
- Experience in Optician/Optical Sales (2 years minimum).
- Proficiency in MS Excel and Word and computers.
- Familiar with EHR programs, inputting data, etc.
