Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented HFFS Machine Operator to join our production team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the setup, operation, and routine maintenance of horizontal form-fill-seal packaging machinery. This role is critical to ensuring our dietary supplement products are packaged safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) and all quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, calibrate, and operate HFFS machines according to production schedules and product specifications (e.g., adjusting temperature, pressure, and sealing times).
- Load and position packaging materials, including roll-stock film and labels.
- Set up and verify a variety of fillers (e.g., auger, volumetric, or liquid fillers) to ensure accurate product weights.
- Configure and verify date coders, printers, and metal detectors for each production run.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Continuously monitor machine operations to ensure packages are properly formed, filled, and sealed.
- Perform regular in-process quality checks for seal integrity, package appearance, correct labeling, date codes, and fill accuracy.
- Strictly adhere to all cGMP, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and safety protocols.
- Follow all company allergen control procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
- Identify and resolve minor machine stoppages and common issues (e.g., film tracking, product jams, sealing faults) to minimize downtime.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance (PM) tasks, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts.
- Assist the maintenance team with more complex troubleshooting and repairs as needed.
Documentation & Sanitation:
- Accurately complete all required production documentation, including batch records, logbooks, and quality checklists.
- Perform thorough cleaning and sanitation of the machine and surrounding work area between product runs, following all sanitation SOPs.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 2 years of experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing environment.
- Direct experience operating HFFS, VFFS, flow wrappers, or similar complex packaging equipment preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions and SOPs in English.
- Basic math skills for calculating production counts and verifying weights.
Preferred:
- Experience in a cGMP environment (dietary supplement, pharmaceutical, or food/beverage manufacturing).
- Familiarity with allergen control programs and LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) safety procedures.
- Experience with various types of product fillers.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand for extended periods (typically 10-hour shifts).
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (e.g., rolls of film, cases of product).
- Requires bending, stooping, and reaching to operate and clean machinery.
- Manual dexterity to make fine adjustments to machine controls.
