Job Description: Tutor

Overview:

The Tutor is responsible for providing targeted academic support to students in core subjects such as math, reading, and writing. Working under the guidance of the Mentor Teacher and Director of Intervention, the Tutor will implement instructional strategies designed to address learning gaps and promote student success. This role involves delivering one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with teachers and staff to enhance academic outcomes.

Responsibilities:

1. Instructional Support (50%)

  • Conduct one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions to reinforce learning in core subjects.
  • Implement instructional strategies and materials provided by the Mentor Teacher and Director of Intervention.
  • Customize tutoring sessions to meet the individual needs of students, focusing on areas where they struggle the most.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment to engage and motivate students.

2. Student Progress Monitoring (25%)

  • Regularly assess student progress through quizzes, assignments, and observation during tutoring sessions.
  • Provide feedback to students on their performance and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and any challenges encountered during sessions.
  • Report student progress and any concerns to the Mentor Teacher and Director of Intervention.

3. Collaboration and Communication (15%)

  • Work closely with the Mentor Teacher to align tutoring sessions with the broader academic intervention programs.
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers to ensure consistency between tutoring sessions and classroom instruction.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development sessions, and training provided by the Mentor Teacher and Director of Intervention.
  • Engage with parents/guardians as needed to discuss student progress and strategies for support at home.

4. Administrative Duties (10%)

  • Assist in preparing instructional materials and resources for tutoring sessions as needed.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality of student information.
  • Manage and organize tutoring space and materials to create an effective learning environment.
  • Complete any additional tasks assigned by the Mentor Teacher or Director of Intervention to support the tutoring program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or current enrollment in a degree program in Education, a related field, or strong academic background in the subject(s) to be tutored.
  • Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, or working with students in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and ability to adapt to different learning styles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail for tracking student progress and preparing materials.
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
