This is a mid-level role designed for a versatile, hands-on engineer who enjoys working across systems, networking, cloud, and cybersecurity rather than being siloed into a single discipline.You will work on both internal Virtual Sprout platforms and customer environments, supporting and improving secure, scalable infrastructure. The right candidate is comfortable owning tasks end-to-end, collaborating with senior engineers, and serving as a trusted technical resource for both internal teams and clients.This role is ideal for someone who wants breadth, responsibility, and exposure to enterprise-grade technologies without being locked into narrow support work.What You’ll Work OnThis role is roughly 65% systems / 35% networking, with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity and secure design.Systems & Cloud EngineeringSupport and improve Microsoft-based environments including Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), Windows Server, and endpoint managementAssist with virtualization, cloud infrastructure, backup, and disaster recovery platformsSupport backup and recovery technologies (Veeam experience preferred)Participate in patching, lifecycle management, and system hardening effortsHelp maintain secure, compliant environments for regulated customersNetworking & SecurityConfigure, manage, and troubleshoot firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, and secure remote accessSupport SASE, secure access, and segmentation initiativesApply security principles including firewall policy design, least privilege, and network isolationTroubleshoot network-related performance and security issues across customer environmentsCybersecurity-Focused WorkWork closely with Virtual Sprout’s cybersecurity services and platformsSupport secure access, monitoring, and remediation initiativesAssist with implementing security controls aligned with regulatory and insurance requirementsContribute to continuous improvement of secure standards and practicesCollaboration & Client EngagementServe as an escalation resource for Tier 2/3 technical issuesParticipate in customer projects and engineering initiativesProvide professional, consultative support during client interactionsAssist with presales engineering activities as neededWhat We’re Looking ForWe’re less concerned with checking every box and more interested in strong fundamentals, curiosity, and ownership mindset.Required Experience & SkillsExperience working as a systems, network, or infrastructure engineer in an MSP, MSSP, or enterprise environmentStrong understanding of Microsoft infrastructure (Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Entra ID)Practical experience with networking fundamentals (firewalls, IP networking, VPNs, VLANs, DNS, DHCP)Exposure to cybersecurity concepts such as firewalling, secure access, segmentation, and hardeningAbility to troubleshoot across systems and networks rather than working in silosStrong communication skills and a professional customer-facing demeanorSelf-motivated, organized, and comfortable working with minimal supervisionNice to HaveExperience with Veeam, backup, or disaster recovery platformsFamiliarity with SASE, zero trust, or secure access architecturesVirtualization or cloud platform exposure (VMware, Azure, etc.)Experience supporting regulated or security-conscious environmentsWork EnvironmentThis is an onsite role based out of our Powell, OH office, Monday through FridayOccasional travel to customer locations as projects requireCollaborative engineering culture with access to senior technical leadershipWhy Virtual SproutAt Virtual Sprout, you’ll work on real infrastructure, real security challenges, and real customer environments—not just tickets.
