Job Description
We are seeking a Fraud Analyst to join our team and help protect incentive programs from abuse and fraud. This role is central to ensuring the integrity of our redemption process for rewards such as digital gift cards, bank transfers, PayPal payouts, and prepaid cards.
As the primary fraud investigator, you will use advanced fraud detection platforms to identify suspicious activity, analyze signals across devices, emails, and phone numbers, and investigate potential account takeover or AML-related behaviors. You will work directly with clients and internal teams to reduce fraud, strengthen trust, and deliver actionable insights.
As part of our Product team, this role reports to the VP of Product Strategy & Development and is highly visible—ideal for someone passionate about tackling complex challenges, preventing fraud, and driving measurable impact.
What You’ll Do
- Investigate: Monitor and analyze redemption activity, transaction logs, and digital fingerprints to detect and investigate potential fraud.
- Manage Rules & Strategies: Design, test, and refine fraud rules, thresholds, and alerts to improve detection accuracy and minimize false positives.
- Analyze Data: Conduct deep dives into fraud patterns and anomalies; use statistical techniques to uncover trends and emerging schemes.
- Report & Advise: Prepare reports on fraud incidents and insights; present findings to internal teams and clients in clear, actionable ways.
- Client Partnership: Build trusted relationships with clients, serving as their subject matter expert on fraud prevention and risk management.
- Collaborate: Partner with product, engineering, operations, and account management teams to troubleshoot cases, resolve incidents, and strengthen fraud processes.
- Continuous Improvement: Provide proactive feedback to enhance fraud tools, processes, and overall client outcomes;Keep up to date with updates and changes in Virtual Incentives’ process and internal risk-based approaches to KYC/CDD/EDD
- Undertake ad hoc team projects as needed.
Key Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to spot anomalies and patterns in complex data.
- 1-3 years experience in fraud prevention, payments/incentives, market research, employee engagement, fintech/financial services, or related areas .
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills; experience with statistical analysis tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with fraud detection concepts such as device intelligence, ID verification, account takeover, and AML risk.
- Prior experience working with fraud detection or risk management platforms and tools
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills—able to explain findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Understanding of behavioral analytics, machine learning signals, and/or statistical modeling is a plus
- Passion for staying ahead of evolving fraud tactics and continuously learning
- Prior experience in a startup or high-growth environment preferred
