Summary

A PCB Quality Inspector verifies that printed circuit boards (PCBs) meet quality standards by performing inspections using visual and automated tools, measuring components, and checking for defects like soldering issues or physical damage. The role involves reading blueprints, record findings in reports, and collaborating with the production team to address and prevent quality issues to ensure products meet specifications before shipping.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct inspections – perform visual and manual inspections of incoming, in-process, and finished PCBs and components to check for defects against company and industry standards (e.g. IPC Standards, AS9100).
  • Utilize measurement tools – Use various tools like calipers, height gauges, micrometers, and vision measuring machines (VMMS) to ensure components meet specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Operate testing equipment – Work with automated testing equipment (ATE) and ensure the accuracy and calibration of all testing equipment and measurement tools.
  • Review documentation – Examine blueprints, specifications, and customer drawings to verify that finished products comply with all requirements.
  • Document findings – Record inspection results, defects, and yield data in logs or electronic information systems.
  • Manage non-conforming material – Identify, segregate, and document non-conforming products to prevent them from being shipped and assist in the disposition process.
  • Collaborate on improvements – work with production and quality teams to identify root causes of defects, implement corrective actions, and suggest improvements to the manufacturing process.
  • Prepare reports – Complete standard reports, such as First Article Inspection (FAI) reports, and verify that all necessary certifications and documentation are accurate and complete.
  • Perform rework – Conduct minor rework as needed, which may include tasks like mask touch-up or material removal and verify the quality of the rework.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Math and basic number skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), use of decimals and fractions.
  • Basic data entry skills for computer applications.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and consistently follow drawings, engineering specifications, floor manufacturing procedures, customer specifications, data packs and workmanship quality standards.
  • Solutions-oriented problem solver and ability to multi-task.
  • Hands on Experience in SMT/Through Hole Circuit Board assembly production, engineering or quality assurance required.

Physical Demands

  • Employees are required to have an eye exam for this position. 20/20 vision (with glasses or contacts if needed) is required and must be able to see colors.
  • Must have an ability to sit for long periods in meetings.
  • Must be able to walk for long distances throughout the production and office areas.
