Director of Interconnection

Viridan Group is partnering with a well capitalized utility scale solar and battery storage platform to hire a Director of Interconnection. This individual will lead the interconnection team and oversee strategy and execution across a growing portfolio of renewable energy projects. The Director will own the full interconnection lifecycle, from initial application and queue management through agreement negotiation, construction milestones and commercial operation. This is a highly visible leadership role with direct influence on project bankability, development strategy and portfolio growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the interconnection team, including Interconnection Engineers and other technical resources
- Own the complete interconnection lifecycle from application and study phases through executed agreements and COD
- Oversee interconnection requests, queue submissions, deposits, milestones and required deliverables
- Develop comprehensive interconnection strategies for utility scale solar and battery storage projects
- Evaluate system impact studies, facilities studies, upgrade requirements, costs and project risks
- Ensure interconnection schedules remain aligned with development and construction targets
- Lead negotiations of interconnection agreements and ensure all associated milestones are met
- Provide interconnection due diligence for project acquisitions and other M&A activity
- Coordinate the development and review of steady state, dynamic and PSCAD models
- Serve as a technical partner to development, engineering, commercial and executive stakeholders
- Represent the organization with utilities, transmission providers and ISO/RTO stakeholder groups
Qualifications
- At least seven years of experience within the electric utility, power generation or renewable energy industry
- Demonstrated experience managing utility scale generation interconnection projects
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities
- Experience within PJM, MISO, SERC, TVA, WECC and/or BPA is preferred
- Working knowledge of power flow and production cost modeling tools such as PSS/E, TARA, PROMOD or PowerWorld
- Familiarity with major North American transmission provider OATTs and interconnection processes
- Understanding of wholesale power market pricing and dynamics is preferred
- Strong written, verbal, technical and presentation skills
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
Location
This position follows a hybrid schedule in Houston, Texas, with four days per week in the office and Fridays remote. Candidates must be based in Houston or willing to relocate.
