Virginia Urology, a large and growing specialty physician practice that has served central Virginia for over 75 years, is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to join our leadership team. This highly visible and hands-on role oversees the growing human resources department for a workforce of 500 employees across multiple clinical and administrative departments. The position is based at our Stony Point office in Richmond, Virginia, and reports directly to the Administrator/CEO.
The Human Resources Director will serve as a strategic leader and trusted advisor for our medical practice, overseeing all aspects of human resources for a workforce of 515 employees across multiple clinical and administrative departments. This individual will lead and develop a team of three HR professionals, ensuring the delivery of effective, compliant, and employee-centered HR services that support the organization’s mission of providing high-quality patient care.
- Provide strategic HR leadership aligned with organizational goals, workforce needs, and industry best practices.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract and retain top healthcare talent.
- Partner with leadership to drive employee engagement, workforce planning, and succession management.
- Oversee employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management processes.
- Mentor, coach and develop the HR team to ensure operational excellence and professional growth.
- Manage and analyze HR metrics, producing reports and recommendations that support strategic decision-making.
- Drive process improvement initiatives that enhance employee engagement, productivity, and organizational performance.
- Administer and monitor competitive compensation and benefits programs that attract and retain top talent while managing costs effectively.
- Oversee benefit plan design, premium analysis, and administration; provide responsive support to employees and physicians regarding their health and retirement benefits.
- Develop and maintain human resources policies and procedures that support operational goals and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide expert guidance to managers and employees on employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field required (master’s preferred).
- Current PHR/SPHR, SPHR-CP/SCP and/or CEBS designation preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience preferred, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of employment and benefits laws and regulations (ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, ADA, ADEA, Title VII, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience managing HR programs and leading teams within complex, multi-site environments.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to build relationships and serve as a collaborative partner across departments.
- High integrity, discretion, and commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Previous experience in healthcare, medical practice, or a similarly regulated industry preferred.
