Job Description
The Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) of Virginia Tech is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, customer-focused Program Coordinator who embodies Virginia Tech’s motto of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). The Program Coordinator reports to the Program Portfolio Manager for Continuing & Professional Education (CPE) and serves as a member of the CPE team that supports LLI (see LLI website for more information). LLI is a member-driven, volunteer organization that draws on the wealth of knowledge in the New River Valley region and beyond to provide intellectual, cultural, and social experiences for adults 50 and older.
This position provides critical administrative, logistical, and communication support functions of the program operations. Exceptional attention to detail, professionalism, and outstanding customer service skills in working with a senior demographic are required. The successful candidate must be able to organize and prioritize competing demands, work collaboratively with staff and volunteer leaders, independently manage their time and responsibilities, and comfortably learn and use new technology. A self-motivated individual with a penchant for lifelong learning who enjoys working with volunteers will be a great addition to the team.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent customer service skills/experience and a passion for community service
- Exceptional administrative, organizational and time management skills with ability to execute program plans
- Proficient computer skills such as email tools, data entry, and manipulating Excel spreadsheets
- High comfort level with learning new software
- Experience in setting up classroom A/V equipment
- Ability to work and make decisions independently with minimal supervision while functioning in a team environment
- Ability to assess and balance competing priorities, ensuring efforts are consistently directed toward the most critical program objectives
- Ability to track and manage numerous details, working with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a continuing education setting or project management environment with a focus on program coordination
- Experience with marketing and communications, such as newsletter creation, social media posts, and preparation of printed materials
- Experience with Office 365, Zoom, and ability to learn other systems required for the position
- Experience analyzing data and preparing effective and concise reports
