Facilities Maintenance Technician - HVAC
Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000
Starting Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience
The State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a customer-oriented Facilities Maintenance Technician to support our facilities. Joining an existing team of facilities staff, the Facilities Maintenance Technician will assist in day-to-day activities operations of SCC facilities (mainly our Tyler Building) and perform facilities operations support, including renovations, preventative maintenance services, repairs, and new system installations in the areas of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, painting, waste management, and general maintenance. The selected candidate for this position must work on-site and the position does not offer telework options.
Additional responsibilities of this position are below:
- triaging and responding to a wide variety of service calls and general maintenance requests across the areas mentioned above
- performing the maintenance, construction, repair, and refurbishment operations of the SCC’s building(s)
- monitoring and maintaining daily building operations, with an emphasis on HVAC, but also including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, painting, waste management, general maintenance, etc.
- performing quality checks on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, monitoring systems performance and functionality, and making recommendations for improvements or upgrades
- creating and implementing preventive maintenance procedures for maintaining building infrastructure and equipment
- working with outside contractors tasked with performing renovations, preventative maintenance services, repairs, and new system installations in the areas of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, waste management, general maintenance, etc.
- performing facilities maintenance activity using an automated facilities maintenance software tool
- assisting other building team members with miscellaneous facility projects, which may include small painting projects, drywall, carpentry, installation of fixtures, and moving furniture or materials within the facility
- maintaining inspection and audit documentation
- coordinating deliveries from vendors and suppliers
- tracking work orders for quality and adherence to standards
- completing building maintenance to assure a safe and comfortable environment
- performing related work as required
Preferred Qualifications
- 6 or more years of experience in facilities maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general repair, construction and/or professional cleaning)
- HVAC experience is strongly preferred
- Journeyman certification in at least one area such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or a similar field is a plus
- Considerable knowledge and experience maintaining day-to-day operations of the facilities
- Considerable knowledge of building lifecycle management, contractor management, and facilities management and maintenance
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) health and safety protocols and procedures
- Working knowledge of building construction project management practices and terminology
- Knowledge in the use of a personal computer, mobile devices, and related applications
- Strong customer focus and ability to interact with all levels of employees, contractors, and suppliers
- Ability to monitor and maintain daily building operations, including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, waste management, general maintenance, etc.
- Ability to operate and manage facilities maintenance activity using an automated facilities maintenance software tool
- Ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing; strong grasp of the English language and proper grammar
- Ability to understand ideas expressed both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Commission staff, industry personnel, contractors, and the general public
- Ability to work daily in the SCC’s facilities
