SVCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of a High School Career Coach. The positions will have a home base of one of the College campus sites, to be determined with consideration for the preference of the selected candidates.
The successful candidates must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency. These positions serve on the college’s Student Success team.
The Coaches will work with area high school students who are in the middle majority academically (2.0 to 3.0 GPA), and with students who lack a clearly defined academic and career path. The Career Coach provides intensive career planning and academic advising services to high school students. The Coach will be assigned to multiple area high schools within the SVCC Service region during the high school academic year and on the community college campus or assigned location during summer months. The position will be part of a career coach team, working collectively with the student population.
This is a restricted, 1-year position with a possible extension: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027; however, this is not a guaranteed time frame.
Job Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Job Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
- Serve as a community college advisor and career/academic advisor for area high school students to help them understand and map out academic and career plans.
- Relate career information to students regarding post-secondary education, labor market information, and training.
- Will administer career assessments and work intensively to help students create academic and career plans to ensure a clear path to successful post-secondary education and training.
- Assist students with the college application process, accessing financial aid, scholarships, and other supports available at their college of choice or via workforce partners in the community application process.
- Provide dual enrollment application support as needed.
- Work effectively with parents of high school students.
- Work to effectively engage and include parents in the post-secondary planning process.
- Will provide parents with community college and transitional information.
- Will aid in the completion of FAFSA, scholarship forms, and college applications.
- Collect, maintain, and report student and program data.
- Will work with EAB Navigate, Google Docs, and PeopleSoft to understand the various reports required.
- Work at the college’s main or off-site locations when high schools are not in session to continually follow up with assigned students who are recent high school graduates.
- Will work with recent high school graduates to ensure a smooth transition to post-secondary training opportunities at the college and to business/industry experiences.
- Will also maintain contact with assigned students who are still in high school to expose these students to post-secondary opportunities as well.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Proficiency with technology, internet applications, and PC-based software, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.)
- Understanding of barriers to educational success and a genuine commitment to helping students achieve their academic and career goals
- Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, economic, and age backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, support, and motivate students
- Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to follow up and follow through effectively
- Strong oral and written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth
- Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
- Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours
- Experience working in higher education or in student advising, counseling, academic coaching, or a related field
- Knowledge of financial aid resources, scholarships, and other student support services
- Experience using student information systems and educational technologies, such as PeopleSoft, Navigate, or similar platforms
