DESCRIPTION

The General Technician reports to the Production Manager and collaborates with Department Heads as a member of the production staff to implement all technical production needs for our full season of programming and events.

Applicants should have a combined range of skills in at least two of the following areas:

  • CARPENTRY – Assist the scenic staff in construction, installation and strike of all scenic elements and participates in shop maintenance and organization. Applicants should possess basic knowledge of theatrical carpentry, proficiency with hand and power tools, and ability to read construction drafting.
  • ELECTRICS – Assist the Production Electrician with general organization and maintenance of all lighting equipment, hang, focus, programming and supervision of student crew for each production. Applicants should possess basic knowledge of theatrical lighting systems and equipment (fixtures, ETC Ion console, cabling), and be comfortable working at heights.
  • SOUND/PROJECTION – Assists the A/V Supervisor with general organization and maintenance of all A/V equipment, system set up and programming for all productions. Applicants should possess basic working knowledge of a wide range of A/V equipment (wired/wireless microphones, speakers, amps, analog and digital consoles, QLab, projection equipment and software), and have some experience mixing live sound for productions.
  • SCENIC PAINTING – Assists the Scenic Charge with advancing scenic elements through the paint process by base coating and applying scenic paint treatments as instructed. Applicants should possess basic scenic painting knowledge, including color mixing and some paint techniques. Please submit portfolio of work with cover letter and resume.
  • PROPS – Assists the Props Supervisor in procuring or fabricating all furniture, set dressing and hand props for all productions. Applicants should possess basic research, construction and sewing skills. Please submit portfolio of work with cover letter and resume.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team under the supervision of the Production Manager to complete daily tasks as assigned associated with producing live theatre
  • Participate in the construction, rehearsals, load-in, performances, maintenance and strike of all elements for multiple shows in multiple venues as assigned
  • Participate in the upkeep and cleanliness of work spaces and maintenance of equipment and shop facilities in order to maintain an efficient and safe work environment
  • Participate in running crew positions on productions as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Personable, positive and culturally competent team player who is committed to collaborating in a safe, friendly and inclusive work environment
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Working theatrical knowledge in the Technician’s areas of focus
  • Working knowledge of drafting software and ability to read CAD drafting of ground plans, sections, and elevations
  • Comfortable with power and hand tools associated with work in each department
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google software
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks as instructed
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adapt
  • Understanding of industry safety and OSHA regulations for live performances
  • Comfortable working at heights on ladders, lifts, fly rail and grid
  • Ability to lift up to 40-50 pounds and work in low light situations

This position is eligible for annual and sick leave, participation in company health, life, dental and vision insurance plans, as well as our 403(b) retirement plan. Starting salary is $36,000-$40,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Overtime, if incurred, will be paid at time and a half in this non-exempt position. Employment begins on or around August 11, 2026 and is a continuing full time, on-site staff position.
