The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking a Training Event Manager in the International Trade Division to plan and implement live training events and webinars to educate Virginia businesses on international trade topics. This role does not involve directly delivering training; instead, the manager identifies and engages subject matter experts to present on relevant topics.
VEDP offers webinars and in-person training to help Virginia businesses grow international sales, providing expert guidance on a range of topics and encouraging knowledge-sharing among Virginia businesses. The Manager coordinates all aspects of event planning, including scheduling, securing relevant speakers, contracting with venues, managing logistics, and promoting events.
This position is part of VEDP’s International Trade Division, which is recognized as the leading state international trade development program in the U.S. The International Trade Division provides a range of resources such as customized market research, international business meetings, and programs to help Virginia companies grow their international sales. Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine a strategy for implementing in-person training and webinars to educate businesses across Virginia on international trade
- Gather input from colleagues, Virginia businesses, and subject matter experts to identify international trade topics that are relevant and in demand by Virginia businesses
- Develop a schedule of training events, including webinars and in-person events
- Coordinate the event planning process, including identifying speakers to deliver each training, contracting with event venues, managing online registration, promoting the training, and distributing training materials
- Participate in both in-person and virtual training events, serving as host or emcee, and oversee on-site logistics to ensure seamless event delivery
- Develop best practices to provide each participant with a consistent, high-quality, and valuable training experience
- Cultivate and maintain partnerships with organizations involved in international training
- Manage a program to provide reimbursement to eligible Virginia businesses that complete international training courses
- Provide logistical support to plan other in-state events for Virginia businesses, such as program orientations
Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and organize a schedule to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to engage in positive working relationships with colleagues and partner organizations
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written), including being comfortable hosting and facilitating questions during training events
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated proficiency with Zoom, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint; experience with Salesforce, Eventbrite, and/or event registration systems is a plus
- Enjoys providing excellent service to internal and external customers and meeting deadlines
Experience:
- 2 years’ experience working in a professional office environment
- Professional experience with event planning and/or event logistics
- Awareness of international business practices, foreign customs, and cultures
- A valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport is required
This position is based in VEDP’s office in Richmond, Virginia three days each week and has the option to telework two days each week according to VEDP’s hybrid work policy. This position requires occasional in-state travel.
