Department: Emergency Medicine
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care in community mental health settings
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment planning
- Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams
- Supervise residents and medical students in clinical rotations
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical documentation
- Maintain current knowledge of psychiatric best practices and evidence-based treatments
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies
Required Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree from accredited institution
- Completion of psychiatry residency training
- Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry
- Current medical license in Virginia or ability to obtain
- Experience in community mental health or public psychiatry preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an employee at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
• Fellowship training in relevant subspecialty
- Previous academic medical center experience
- Research experience and publications
- Teaching and supervision experience
- Bilingual capabilities
- Experience with electronic health record systems
- Leadership experience in clinical or administrative roles
