Responsibilities Include (but Are Not Limited To)
- Utilize knowledge of the carpentry trade to perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building infrastructure.
- Provide exemplary customer service to all faculty, staff, and students supporting the University’s mission of teaching, high-impact research, and creative expression.
- Identify, document, and correct building deficiencies using diagnostic tools and advise management of tasks requiring priority attention.
- Provide quality workmanship and service to maintain the University's capital assets, to maximize system availability, and to minimize unscheduled downtime
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Experience in commercial/institutional carpentry maintenance.Ability to repair and service a wide variety of building infrastructure including but not limited to doors, acoustical ceilings, VCT flooring, drywall, cove base, and plaster.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers.
- Knowledge of appropriate building codes.
- Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes.
- Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in commercial/institutional carpentry maintenance.
- Working knowledge of the use of scissor lifts, personal vertical lifts, and snow removal equipment.
- Familiarity using work management software
