Mission or Goal of Unit: The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is recruiting a pediatric endocrinologist at the Assistant or Associate professor level. The Division manages the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, the region’s most comprehensive program for children with diabetes and other endocrine disorders, as well as the Healthy Lifestyles Center, the region’s most comprehensive pediatric obesity treatment and research center. The division offers outstanding, evidence-based medical care, medical nutrition therapy, psychological support, education, and support groups. Division faculty have a robust research portfolio, which includes both extramurally-funded research and industry sponsored clinical trials, making the division a leader in advancing obesity and diabetes-related research. The Division supports an accredited Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship Program and an Obesity Medicine Fellowship program, a robust clinical service, and a multidisciplinary research program focused on childhood obesity, diabetes, and endocrine disorders. The unit is committed to excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service while fostering an inclusive and diverse environment. The successful candidate must be Board Certified in pediatric endocrinology, and eligible for appointment at Assistant or Associate professor level.

Chief Purpose of this Position in Support of Above Mission or Goal: To provide expert clinical care in Pediatric Endocrinology, contribute to the education and mentorship of learners, participate in scholarly and research activities, and support departmental, institutional, and professional service initiatives. The faculty member will help advance the Division’s mission of excellence in clinical care, education, research, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Provide comprehensive, evidence-based clinical care as a Pediatric Endocrinologist within the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU
  • Deliver inpatient and outpatient endocrine services for children and adolescents
  • Participate in after-hours, weekend, and call coverage as appropriate
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including dietitians, diabetes educators, nurse navigators, social workers, psychologists, and other specialists

Teaching

  • Provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents, chief residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers
  • Support the Division's fellowship training programs in Pediatric Endocrinology and Obesity Medicine
  • Participate in formal and informal educational activities within the Department of Pediatrics
  • Foster a positive learning environment
  • Support the Division's fellowship training programs in Pediatric Endocrinology and Obesity Medicine

Research and Scholarship

  • Participate in clinical, translational, and/or outcomes research
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of basic research methodologies
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams focused on childhood obesity, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and endocrine disorders
  • Contribute to scholarly activity including abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and clinical trials

Service and Professional Contributions

  • Serve on departmental, School of Medicine, or university committees as appropriate
  • Participate in professional activities such as journal review, conference presentations, professional organizations, and community outreach

Other (for Instance Administrative Duties, Etc.)

  • Participate in faculty development and academic activities
  • Contribute to division, departmental, and institutional strategic initiatives
  • Promote belonging within the workplace and academic environment
  • Support growth and advancement of the Division’s clinical, educational, and research programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by departmental and divisional leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.D., D.O., or equivalent medical degree
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatric Residency Program
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Program
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Active Drug Enforcement Agency Licensure
  • Credentialing at VCUH is required
  • Experience in the clinical care of pediatric endocrine patients
  • Demonstrated teaching ability and commitment to medical education
  • Working knowledge of basic research methods and ability to participate in clinical, translational, and/or outcomes research
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, academic medicine, and professional service
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior academic faculty experience
  • Experience supervising and mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Experience participating in clinical trials and funded research programs
  • Record of scholarly activity including publications, presentations, or grant participation
  • Experience in multidisciplinary diabetes and obesity management programs
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within academic medicine or professional organizations
  • Experience working within a children's hospital or academic medical center setting
  • Interest in advancing fellowship training programs and expanding research initiatives
