Job Purpose: This position will be responsible for standard operating/production procedures, safety, quality control, housekeeping, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Maintenance Department. This position provides support to all areas of operation and will be responsible for the supervision of Team Members assigned to the designated area.
Essential Functions:
- Provides leadership to the team, coordinating and overseeing their workloads, providing support to ensure that the team delivers, monitoring any issues, and ensuring targets, key performance indicators and quality standards are met.
- Develops the team by focusing on individual performance and support requirements to achieve high standards, while fostering a culture or working safely.
- Evaluates systems or facilities to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.
- Works with maintenance supervisor to plan work priorities, obtain necessary supplies, and assess skills needed to complete tasks.
- Ensures that machinery runs to their maximum efficiency and output to include total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and knowledge of robotic equipment.
- Collaborates with team members to discuss upcoming work assignments; delegates assignments based on team members skills and experience.
- Ensures maintenance and repair work is completed safely, effectively and in a timely manner.
- Assists team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments.
- Inspects work performed by team members.
- Tracks and logs workers time, materials, and other resources used for inventory purposes.
- Works with maintenance supervisor to coordinate topics for safety meetings.
- Assists maintenance supervisor with performance evaluations for team members.
- Drives a culture of continuous improvement throughout the team of skilled technicians.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative/judgement in work methods and in interpreting and delegating work requirements/goals.
- Able to work independently within the guidance and expectations of direct management.
- Ability to communicate with clarity, both verbally and in written forms.
- Must be able to demonstrate excellence in approach to work and people activities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to identify issues and to determine repairs that are needed.
- Ability to plan maintenance schedules.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Must be able to speak English.
- Must have the ability to drive motorized equipment or vehicles and have a valid driver’s license.
- Must pass Virco driver’s background check and forklift driving test.
- Must have the ability and awareness to recognize sights and sounds in the workplace which the employee might encounter.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as needed to complete reports, logs and inventory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 years of experience managing, supervising, and/or leading people.
- Basic knowledge of OSHA’s maintenance and power & industrial truck regulations.
Physical Requirements:
Able to occasionally lift 50 pounds to waist level. Occasionally pushes and/or pulls up to 50 pounds using some type of moving equipment. Frequently bends and stoops. Frequently walks throughout the 8-10 hours of the shift. Must be able to withstand 8 to 10 hours standing on a concrete surface. Must wear applicable and proper protective equipment including but not limited to protective eye and/or hearing equipment to safely perform job duties. Will occasionally be exposed to chemicals, dust, heat, cold, gas, and/or fumes. Must be able to adjust to normal plant environmental conditions (above moderate heat and cold) and to adapt quickly to physical applications requiring varying motor skills.
