PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
As a Roadside Facility Supervisor / Job Coach, you provide the necessary supervision, instruction, and training of client workers to ensure that all contract standards are being met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
(Day to Day Operations of Rest Area Maintenance Program)
1. Supervise / train / Job coach roadside facility workers.
2. Maintain a safe environment for travelers and workers.
3. Responsible for all facets custodial work, especially in the safe and efficient operation of equipment (floor scrubbers, upright scrubbers, trash cart, pressure washers. Trash / recycling removal can involve lifting bags in excess of 40 lbs.
4. Responsible for keeping the grounds in excellent condition with the use of lawn tractor, push mowers, string trimmers, walk behind edgers etc.) and the development of effective work habits.
5. Responsible for quality control checks to ensure compliance with the contract standards, during work hours and a final inspection before leaving the Rest Area.
6. Part time supervisors are required to provide program coverage for absent staff. Coverage may include all/any hours of operation and any location.
7. Responsible for accurate record keeping of all records and forms that are required to be kept up to date by the WIDOT, DNR, DSPN and VIP
8. Responsible for assessing facility maintenance needs, making minor repairs when possible and contacting contractors for maintenance issues beyond the scope of our contract.
9. Responsible for snow removal for public safety on sidewalks. This includes operating tractors, snow blowers, extensive shoveling as well as deicing with salt push spreaders. May be outside most of shift doing snow removal.
10. Must be able to use up to a 10-foot ladder to change lights, painting, cleaning gutters, etc.
11. Responsible for monitoring supply stock and inventory control.
12. Will provide on call service during off hours for both full and part time. This would be between 5:30 PM and 5:30 AM 7 days a week. All supervisors are included in providing this coverage.
13. Must be able to use a Windows computer, Android tablets, iPads, and access websites. Check your work-based email daily and be able to navigate Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook and Office.com. Enter daily shift notes in Microsoft Teams. May be assigned a user account in WisDOT FAMIS software.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
(Job Coach Responsibilities)
As a Job Coach, regular interaction with employees is expected. You will need to build relationships to learn how each team member works best, and to understand where there are gaps and the need for skill development. This is a learning environment where constructive feedback, support, and motivation are key. Additionally, you’ll help employees learn to navigate the social aspects of the workplace. An experienced, qualified Job Coach can:
- Plan and implement a job coaching strategy with multiple employees
- Assess the professional strengths and weaknesses of employees
- Discover what motivates employees and assist them in utilizing that motivation in the workplace
- Assist employees with disabilities in learning and excelling in their job functions
- Create and update records and reports on progress
A job coach must be a mentor eager to support their crew members. You must be able to discover people's strengths and weaknesses and work with them in the most effective way- which will differ from person to person.
Minimum Requirements
- Communication skills.

- Collaborative, approachable, and communicative.
- Experience using computer preferred.
- Ability to pass a federal caregiver background check upon hire & every 4 years thereafter.
Education
High School diploma or equivalent General knowledge of building and grounds upkeep. Experience working with physically and cognitively challenged individuals preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
May involve heavy lifting, pushing, pulling demands. (50 – 100 lbs.) Considerable walking and standing with regular bending, twisting, and reaching required. Exposure to injury or occupational disease which requires routine precautions. Routine exposure to unpleasant odors, poorly ventilated, and non-air-conditioned environments. May be outdoors for long periods of times in extreme weather such as rain, snow, or extreme cold.
This is a 40-Hour / Week Full-Time Benefit Eligible Position.
Thursday through Monday 9:00am-5:30pm.
Job site is the Janesville Rest Area 17, I-39 Southbound / I-90 Eastbound Janesville.
Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record.
