Position Summary
The Pharmacy Shipping Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all daily shipping, fulfillment, and logistics operations within the pharmacy. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and compliant shipment of prescription medications and pharmacy products while maintaining operational efficiency, inventory integrity, and exceptional service standards.
The Shipping Manager supervises shipping personnel, coordinates cross-functionally with pharmacy and customer service teams, monitors carrier performance, and implements workflow improvements to support the pharmacy’s growth and operational goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily pharmacy shipping and fulfillment operations for prescription medications and pharmacy products
- Supervise, train, coach, and schedule shipping department team members
- Ensure all orders are packaged, labeled, and shipped accurately in compliance with company policies, HIPAA requirements, USP standards, and applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations
- Coordinate with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and customer service teams to resolve shipping delays, temperature excursions, delivery issues, and order discrepancies
- Monitor carrier performance, shipping timelines, and delivery metrics to ensure service-level expectations are achieved
- Maintain accurate inventory controls related to shipping materials, packaging supplies, and outbound medication inventory
- Ensure proper handling and documentation of refrigerated, hazardous, and specialty medications when applicable
- Develop and improve shipping workflows and SOPs to increase operational efficiency and reduce errors
- Investigate, document, and resolve shipping discrepancies, damaged packages, lost shipments, and delivery complaints
- Support onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and accountability of shipping personnel
- Maintain a clean, organized, compliant, and safe shipping environment
- Assist leadership with reporting, KPI tracking, and operational improvement initiatives
- Support emergency operational needs, including high-volume fulfillment periods and expedited shipments
Qualifications
- Previous shipping, warehouse, logistics, or fulfillment management experience required
- Pharmacy, healthcare, or regulated distribution experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of medication handling procedures and shipping compliance requirements
- Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and pharmacy operational standards
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with shipping software, inventory systems, and carrier platforms preferred
- Familiarity with FedEx, UPS, and temperature-controlled shipping processes preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move packages up to 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive hand movements
- Ability to work in a warehouse and pharmacy operations environment
