About The Organization

Established by Black and Latina activists in 1984, the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) is NYC’s only culturally specific organization with a mission to address domestic and sexual violence within Latine communities. We provide intensive support and services to 3,500 survivors and children every year and reach 10,000 community members through community events and preventive education workshops. We are dedicated to developing innovative programs that meet the complex needs of our diverse community and that align with our organizational values.

Program Overview

The Economic Justice Program (EJP) assists participants in strengthening their economic well-being and achieving long-term economic stability. EJP specializes in promoting economic security among people who are not part of the traditional workforce and who are survivors of intimate partner and/or sexual violence. Through trauma-informed financial literacy, business development, and digital literacy education, EJP provides participants with the tools to break cycles of violence and poverty regardless of immigration status, trauma history, or language barriers.

VIP is expanding its existing business development workshops to include digital literacy topics and developing the Artesanando Cohort, a group of Latina survivor-entrepreneurs who will receive intensive coaching, mentorship, and technical assistance as they create an online marketplace to sell their products and services.

Position Summary

The Economic Justice Advocate provides culturally specific, trauma-informed supportive services to promote economic independence and long-term stability for survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence. This role focuses on coaching, facilitation, and training to support immigrant and Latinx survivors in developing small businesses, accessing financial tools, and building collective economic power.

The ideal candidate brings a deep commitment to social justice, an understanding of intersectional experiences of oppression, and strong digital and entrepreneurial skills to support survivors in navigating pathways toward financial autonomy.
