The Company

Project Overview:
As part of the Hampton Roads Connector Partners (HRCP) Joint Venture (JV) consisting of VINCI Construction and FlatironDragados has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design Build project – the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
The project scope across a 9-mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the beginning of 2027.
Responsibilities:
The Equipment Deputy Manager will be responsible for managing the operations of all equipment at the Jobsite, focused on all the civil works equipment (Cranes, pile driving equipment, yellow iron equipment…etc.), its maintenance, maintenance personnel, and equipment performance, as well as the financial performance of equipment assets to meet the business expectations.
- Reporting to the Equipment Manager, manage and control all equipment and vehicle fleet at the Jobsite, excluding the equipment related to the tunneling activities.
- Assists management with final equipment budgets and potential equipment purchases to meet budgetary goals.
- Maintains the updated equipment inventory list.
- Requests and collects information regarding equipment utilization ratio and recommend a course of action to Management (needed/no longer needed at the project).
- Assists the Manager in preparation of the project’s equipment budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
- Maintains working knowledge of applicable codes and standards for a project.
- Performs technical administration of contracts.
- Always enforce site safety.
- Maintains communications with local equipment dealers and appropriate vendors to ensure that dealer support, repair decisions, costs, and warranty recovery meets expectations.
- Investigates and evaluates the cause and extent of damage to the equipment involved in accidents.
- Coordinates any equipment purchases, rentals, and sales in the Jobsite.
- Design and coordinates maintenance strategies, procedures, and methods.
- Organize the carry out routine maintenance work and respond to equipment faults.
- Liaise with the rest of departments, customers, and other engineering and production colleagues.
- Arrange specialist procurement of spare parts, fittings, or components.
- Control maintenance tools, stores, and equipment.
- Monitor and control maintenance costs.
- Dealing with emergencies, unplanned problems, and repairs.
- Improve health and safety policies and procedures.
- Write maintenance strategies to help with installation and commissioning guidelines.
- Ensure there is continuous cover of the machinery and equipment in case of breakdowns.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
- 8 years of experience in management of civil works equipment.
- Efficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, BlueBeam, and other related engineering software.
- In-depth understanding of various types of construction equipment such as cranes, drilling rigs, and excavators.
- Aptitude for identifying and resolving equipment-related issues efficiently.
- The capacity to understand a range of engineering functions and procedures.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical specifications, equipment manuals, and engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and standards relevant to tunnel construction, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
- Business skills, as you may be responsible for managing budgets, leading a team, and liaising with suppliers.
- Proficiency in project management principles and methodologies, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- The ability to lead and motivate others.
- Teamworking skills to work cooperatively and liaise with people at all levels.
- Good diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- The confidence to respond positively when under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with project stakeholders, equipment suppliers, and team members.
- People-management skills.
Preferred:
- Engineering, Construction Management, or related education.
People Management and Supervisory Responsibility:
- Manage 3–4 direct reports and oversee a broader team of 6–8 including indirect reports.
Work Environment:
- Mostly on Construction Site
- Technology Driven Workspace Office
- Conducting site visits
- Exposure to extreme temperatures when in the field as well as high levels of noise and varying levels of dust
Physical Demands:
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling light objects up to 25 pounds.
