Summary:
The Resident Aide assists residents with daily living activities which may include personal hygiene, dressing, dining and transporting needs. Documents resident care as required. Communicates effectively with residents, family members, and staff. Assists other members of the nursing staff with duties related to the daily needs of the residents according to established standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Commits to the Vincentian Collaborative Systems (VCS) mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society.
2. Upholds and promotes the VCS values of spirituality, compassion, quality, dignity, collaboration, advocacy and stewardship.
3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.
4. Assists with personal hygiene including dressing, bathing, shaving, dental hygiene, nail and hair care.
5. Performs housekeeping tasks such as laundry, vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning room, bed making, and bed changes.
6. Escorts residents and coordinates internal transportation needs.
7. Observes/reports changes in residents’ physical and cognitive/emotional status to the nurse.
8. Conducts room checks and resident rounds.
9. Reports environmental safety hazards, records incidents, errors or accidents.
10. Assists in tasks relating to dining.
11. Participates in resident-centered activity programs.
12. Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations.
13. Works collaboratively with peers and other team members.
14. Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process.
15. Recognizes and respects resident rights and maintains and protects resident and coworker confidentiality.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
1. High school graduate or equivalent required.
2. Current Med-Tech Certificate preferred.
3. Previous resident care experience or related training preferred.
Work Environment:
Employees of a long term care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents.
Working conditions include normal indoor temperatures. There may also be times when employees perform duties outdoors. Depending on the season, outdoor temperatures will vary.
Employees may come into contact with residents who have infectious diseases or to resident bodily fluids or blood. In addition, employees may come into contact with hazardous materials and facility equipment.
