What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Career Services position at Vincennes University?
Primary Function:
The Director of Career Services will perform duties related to the operations of the Career Center. Including working with students, business, and industry to meet employment needs. The Director will use various avenues to connect students and employers with full-time employment, summer employment, part-time employment, and internships.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain existing working relationships and develop new working relationships with quality employers.
- Encourage employers to register on and assist with posting employment opportunities on the Career Center external database.
- Conduct employer fairs throughout the academic year enabling students to gain visibility with employers. Those fairs would include part-time job fairs, full-time Career Fairs, or Internship Fairs.
- Work with academic colleges to plan events that meet the unique needs and skill sets of our students and employers.
- Schedule campus-based interviews throughout the year.
- Survey employers and students utilizing career services to evaluate services provided.
- Assist employers with salary/benefit information for various employment positions as they are making job offers to graduates.
- Assist students with their resumes, job searches, Blazer Careerlink usage, cover letters, interviews, and follow-up communications.
- Create and conduct class presentations to assist students with occupational majors in the search of near future employment.
- Coordinate, create, and conduct workshops pertinent to employability success of all VU students.
- Conduct an Occupational Graduate Survey by contacting recent graduates completing an ACST or BS major. Using various collection methods, collect data to determine their employment success, salary, and other related data which could be used for potential students as well as current students needing to select a major.
- Track activities performed by the Center in order to evaluate future needs.
- Create and monitor the department budget.
- Project future department needs when constructing the budget.
- Provide direction to the Career Specialist and Secretary of the Career Services.
- Maintain membership to National Association of Colleges and Employers, (NACE) and Career Development Professionals of Indiana, (CDPI).
- Serves as a Campus Security Authority.

Education, Experience, Licensure:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s level degree preferred in areas of student affairs, higher education, organizational management
- Two years of career center experience in post-secondary preferred and/or experience working in a higher education/student affairs environment.
