What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Service Advisor: Family Shop Since 1999 ($60K–$75K / Weekends Off / Benefits & PTO) position at Vince's Auto Service?
Assistant Service Advisor: Ever get home after work and just sit in your car for a minute… trying to shake off a day that drained you before you even walked in the door?
That feeling where you’re the one absorbing it all.
The customer who’s already mad before you say a word.
The tech who’s frustrated the job’s taking longer than quoted.
And an owner who only checks in when the numbers are down.
You’re stuck in the middle of everyone else’s stress, and somehow it’s your job to make it all feel okay.
You’re good at this — really good at it — but nobody above you seems to notice…
Or care.
Now, here’s what it could look like instead:
Picture being paid what you’re actually worth, with a real bonus plan behind it…
One built so that when the shop does better, you do better.
Sitting in a staff meeting where your opinion isn’t just heard — it changes how things get done around here.
A calendar with most weekends still blank, because we don’t live at the shop and we don’t expect you to either.
Working with techs who back you up and trust what you tell the customer, because you’ve earned it through the way you communicate — not because someone forced them to respect you.
And working for an owner who’s actually around, who gives you a straight answer instead of hiding behind a title. And staying somewhere long enough to actually build something…
Instead of just filling a seat until the next guy walks in the door.
That’s not a fantasy — that’s Vince’s Auto Service.
The best part?
We’re looking for an Assistant Service Advisor who takes pride in doing this job right. Someone who genuinely likes people, communicates like a pro…
And wants to be part of a shop that’s actually going somewhere.
Vince’s has been a fixture in Newtown for over 26 years. We still service cars from our very first customers, and we’ve built our reputation one honest conversation at a time.
We’re not a franchise chasing numbers…
We’re a family-owned shop that believes the person greeting the customer is just as important as the tech turning the wrench.
So, if you’re an experienced service writer who’s tired of feeling like you’re the glue holding your current shop together — without any recognition for it…
And you’re ready for a shop where your voice actually shapes how things run and your weekends stay yours…
Then keep reading.
What You’ll Actually Do Here
This is a front-counter role. You are the voice of this shop — and the second set of hands that keeps the front running when it needs to.
- Write service. Greet customers, listen first, build the estimate, present it honestly, and follow up so nothing falls through the cracks.
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with our techs. Walk out to the vehicle. Understand what’s actually wrong. Then explain it to the customer in words they understand.
- Sell with real data behind you. Every recommendation is backed by a computerized vehicle health inspection — not a guess and not a quota.
- Keep the board moving. Scheduling, parts ordering, status updates, and following the process (and helping us make that process better).
- Be the backup up front. This one matters. When our service manager takes a vacation day or a sick day, you step in and the front counter doesn’t miss a beat. She’ll train you on everything you need — systems, numbers, and how we run the day — so you’re never guessing.
One more thing: if you came up as a technician and moved to the front counter — or you’re an advisor who can still plug a tire or knock out an oil change when we’re slammed — that’s a genuine plus around here. It is not the job. The job is taking care of customers and selling service honestly. But those skills won’t go unnoticed, and they won’t go unrewarded.
Here’s What We Promise Our Assistant Service Advisor
- $60,000 to $75,000 per year, based on experience
- Hourly base plus a production bonus tied to gross profit — once you hit the number, the more you produce, the bigger your share
- Health & Vision Insurance, Dental available
- Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, and Vacation Time
- Sick days that are actually respected, not questioned
- A true 5-day work week. We haven’t worked weekends in years, and we don’t plan to — if a rare Saturday ever comes up, you’ll know well in advance
- Weekly staff meetings where your voice actually shapes how things run
- Continued education and training, because we invest in the people who invest in us
- Training directly from our service manager on both the advisor side and the management side of the front counter
✓ WORK-LIFE BALANCE (FAMILY 1ST!) — We believe people need time to recharge, and we’re committed to you being happy inside and outside the shop. Paid vacation, paid holidays, sick days, and a true 5-day work week with most weekends free.
✓ YOU WILL BE APPRECIATED (OPEN-DOOR POLICY) — We’re an independent, family-owned shop. Decision-makers are onsite and easy to reach. Your opinion is respected here, and you can actually make a difference in how things run.
✓ YOU WILL ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOU STAND — We hold weekly staff meetings where feedback goes both ways. No guessing games, no playing favorites. Everything is open, honest, and above board.
✓ NO DRAMA — We keep a friendly, positive environment. No whiners, no prima donnas, no politics. Just good people doing good work together.
✓ WE WILL HELP YOU BECOME MORE VALUABLE — We’re big on continued education. If there’s a training opportunity that’ll sharpen your skills, we’ll talk about it — because a better you makes a better shop.
✓ LONGEVITY — We have very low turnover here. Once people join our team, they tend to stay. This can be the last shop you need to work for.
✓ YOU WILL BE PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL — We’ve been a fixture in Newtown for over 26 years. We still service cars from our very first customers. When you do right by them, the shop wins, the customer wins, you win.
✓ COMPUTERIZED HEALTH INSPECTIONS — Our shop runs on computerized vehicle health inspections, so you’re backed by real data when you talk to customers. It makes your recommendations easier to trust and easier to sell honestly.
Our Values — What We Stand For
Every shop says it has values. Here are ours, and here is how you’ll see them on an ordinary Tuesday:
✓ INTEGRITY — We do the right thing when the customer will never know the difference, and when it costs us the ticket. If it doesn’t need to be done, we don’t sell it.
✓ HONESTY IN EVERY CONVERSATION — No shady upsells. No pressure tactics. We tell people exactly what we found, exactly what it will cost, and exactly what can wait.
✓ PEOPLE BEFORE PARTS — Every recommendation is backed by a real computerized health inspection — never a guess, never a quota. Customers trust what we tell them because we’ve earned it since 1999.
✓ RESPECT FOR THE PERSON AT THE COUNTER — The person greeting the customer matters as much as the tech turning the wrench. That’s not a slogan here, it’s how we staff and how we pay.
✓ WE FINISH WHAT WE START — We take ownership. If something goes sideways, we own it, we fix it, and we make it right.
140 GOOGLE REVIEWS AND A 4.9-STAR RATING. Our customers don’t just trust us with their cars — they stick with us for years, some since 1999. We treat them right, communicate honestly, and it shows. But don’t take our word for it. See what our customers have to say: https://share.google/AY4NpolSRdKe8Z7j3
About Vince’s Auto Service
Vince’s Auto Service opened its doors in Newtown back in 1999, and we still service cars from our very first customers. That’s not an accident. It’s what happens when you treat people right and do the job honestly, year after year.
We’re a family-owned shop, not a franchise chasing numbers. We built our reputation one honest conversation at a time, and 26 years later, that reputation is still what brings people through our door.
We’re not the biggest shop in Bucks County. We’re just trying to be the best one.
Skills and Traits That Help You Shine in This Role
- Real service writing experience — ideally 5 years in a professional automotive repair environment
- Independent shop background preferred. We move fast, wear a few hats, and make decisions on the floor — not through three layers of a process manual
- You have a positive, can-do attitude and a real willingness to learn new things — including new systems
- You are comfortable with computers and able to pick up new software without a fuss (we run Protractor — experience with it is a plus, but we’ll train the right person)
- You are willing to follow directions and apply what you have learned
- You genuinely like people, and it shows the second you open your mouth
- You communicate clearly — in person, on the phone, by text, and in writing
- You listen first, then explain things in a way customers actually understand
- You understand technicians and want to work with them — you’ll walk out to the vehicle to see what they’re seeing so you can explain it better
- Strong attention to detail, and you stay organized under pressure
- You follow a process instead of winging it, and you help make that process better
- You take ownership of your work and don’t need to be micromanaged
- You show up polished, professional, and ready to represent this shop well
- Basic mechanical ability is a bonus, not a requirement. If you can plug a tire or handle an oil change when we’re buried, we’ll be glad you can — but the front counter is the job
