Responsible For: Work involves performing diverse administrative, secretarial, and support activities for a department head. Work requires extensive word-processing and electronic spreadsheet preparation, using Microsoft Office. Work often involves extensive public contact and effective coordination with other Village departments and commissions. Work requires the exercise of discretion, judgment and initiative.
Residency Requirement: Must live within the following boundaries within 12 months of hire: Those portions of Cook County, DuPage County and Kane County north of I-290 and I-88. Those portions of Lake County and McHenry County south of Route 176 and east of Route 23 Starting
Salary: $56,128; Top of Salary Range Currently: $80,745

Qualifications: Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling and mathematics. Ability to make decisions independently, recognizing established precedents and practices. Ability to interact well with other employees in an office environment. Ability to interact tactfully with department heads and elected officials. Ability to work as a member of a team and to show courtesy, consideration and respect for the public. 50 wpm typing. Valid Illinois driver’s license; ability to pass a police background examination and reference check, and physical including drug screen. You must meet these qualifications in order to be eligible to take the written examination.
Applications: Applications will be accepted until 12:00 noon, Friday, April 17, 2026, at Village Hall, 301 East Irving Park Road. Your application must be received by this time for you to be eligible to take the Civil Service Examination. Your application must reflect your attainment of the required qualifications.
Civil Service Testing Process Two Year Eligible List: The Streamwood Civil Service Commission will be preparing a two-year eligibility list for the position of Administrative Assistant. The eligibility list will be used for the filling of Administrative Assistant positions for a 2-year period. Only those people appearing on the eligible list can be considered for Administrative Assistant positions for this two-year period.
Civil Service Written Examination Notification: The Civil Service Administrative Assistant written examination will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in the Streamwood Police Department. The Police Department is located at 401 East Irving Park Road. Applicants will be notified of testing time by e-mail. A picture ID must be presented to take the exam.
