Position Summary
The Laborer performs a variety of manual labor, maintenance, and operational support duties for the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Water Treatment Plant, and Department of Public Works (DPW). This position assists in maintaining public infrastructure, utilities, equipment, buildings, and grounds while ensuring a safe and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to work in a variety of weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and housekeeping at wastewater and water treatment facilities.
- Assist with the operation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Perform grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, snow removal, and debris cleanup.
- Assist with street, sidewalk, drainage, and public infrastructure maintenance.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist with water main repairs, sewer repairs, hydrant maintenance, and valve exercising.
- Clean tanks, buildings, equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Perform routine inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Assist with emergency response operations during water or sewer emergencies, storms, or other public works events.
- Follow all OSHA, NYS Department of Health, DEC, and municipal safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid New York State driver's license required.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check if required.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand and power tools preferred.
- Experience in construction, public works, water/wastewater, or maintenance is beneficial but not required.

Work Schedule
This position may be full-time or part-time. Work schedules may include weekdays, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-ins as required to maintain essential public services.
