Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
  • Must be under 35 years of age at the time of application and final eligibility list posting unless exempt under applicable Illinois law.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license from any state.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to read and speak English.
  • Must successfully pass all required medical, psychological, and background screening processes.

Hiring Process

To be considered, candidates must complete:

  • National Testing Network (NTN) Frontline National Exam
  • Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA)
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Oral Interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Comprehensive Background Investigation
  • Medical/Physical Examination
