Assists with the daily operations of Village parks and the Coral Reef Recreation Center. The position is primarily responsible for assisting park patrons and guests, and for processing reservations and registrations for park programs and activities, collecting fees for services, maintaining accurate documentation and records, performing light maintenance and clean-up duties. The Recreation Attendant is expected to always maintain a high level of customer service.  

The position is supervised by the Parks & Recreation Supervisor or designee and no supervision is exercised.      

  • The duties listed below are customary for this position.  The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this classification.
    • Greets patrons of the recreation center and ensures the smooth flow of patrons in the welcome/lobby area; assists with questions and swiftly resolves complaints and issues according to departmental rules and village policies.
    • Processes reservations for all park and recreation center rentals, including courts, fields and private parties.
    • Handles registrations for all recreational programs including village camp; keeps accurate attendance records for group lessons, clinics and all recreational programs conducted at the Recreation Center.
    • Maintains accurate and complete records of all reservations and bookings in an organized fashion, ensuring that all required documentation has been provided.
    • Performs cashiering duties to include fee collection and processing, accounting of payments received and reconciliation; responsible for the accuracy of all accounts receivable; generates accounts receivable reports; calculates monthly and weekly totals for all programs and lessons
    • Assists with the set-up and break-down for all recreation programs, games and activities, room rentals and assigned special events.
    • Prepares courts for play by setting-up the umbrellas, water coolers, adjusting nets and/or windscreens, score cards, rack system, and all other required prep duties.
    • Maintains courts in proper condition for use by replacing torn or broken nets and/or screens, tying loose nets, etc.
    • Inspects courts and the recreation center to detect any potential hazards or unsafe conditions and reports such to the supervisor immediately.
    • Cleans courts as necessary, but no less frequent than daily; removes and discards all trash and debris.
    • Cleans and disinfects recreation center lobby, restrooms and recreation rooms regularly and as needed for use by respective clientele.
    • Cleans and organizes the recreation center lobby and the park office.
    • Assists with removal of debris, changing of trash liners, and janitorial tasks throughout the park.
    • Enforces park policies and procedures and safety rules.
    • Inventories equipment and supplies; submits orders to the supervisor when inventory is low.
    • Assists in creating promotional flyers, programs and publications, inclusive of the published monthly calendar, to promote park activities, programs and events; updates the bulletin board with related content as needed.
    • Answers phone calls and emails.
    • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays, as assigned.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year prior cashiering experience. 
  • One (1) year prior experience in a customer service position, requiring extensive interaction with the general public.
  • Prior work experience in recreation desired.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher.
  • Must be fluent in the English language; Spanish is a plus.
  • Must be available to work on weekends, nights and Holidays.
 
Licenses and Certifications
  • Must hold a valid State of Florida driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work indoors as well as outdoors in all climate conditions; may be exposed to sunlight, inclement weather conditions, noise, dust and fumes. 
  • Requires physical strength and agility to perform assigned tasks, which include, but are not limited to, bending, twisting, walking, climbing, reaching, lifting, moving or carrying objects which may weigh more than 25 lbs. 
  • Physical ability to independently operate a computer, cashier, calculator, telephone and other such office equipment.
