What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Service Aide position at Village of Palmetto Bay?
This position is responsible for assisting and directing park patrons and enforcing park rules and regulations. Also maintains the cleanliness of Village parks.
This position is supervised by the Parks and Recreation Supervisor or designee. Park Service Aides do not exercise any supervisory responsibilities.
- Primarily responsible for greeting and assisting park patrons in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Enforces and communicates park ordinances, rules, regulations, and policies to park patrons and the general public.
- Performs tasks related to park cleanliness and maintenance such as, but not limited to, cleaning and disinfecting recreation room, restrooms, water fountains, shelters, dugouts, etc…, picking up and disposing of trash/litter throughout the park, emptying trash receptacles, replenish trash liners, blowing dirt and landscape debris, graffiti removal, cleaning and clearing sidewalks, trails, concrete pads, playground & tennis center surfaces, and parking areas.
- Maintains, cleans, and general up-keep of all park equipment, furniture, gazebos/picnic pavilions, dug-outs, recreational rooms, maintenance garage, and all other park amenities which includes but not limited to, pressure cleaning, and painting.
- Requisitions and re-stocks janitorial supplies in restrooms and recreational rooms as necessary.
- Under the supervision of maintenance staff, prepares and cleans athletic fields, as directed.
- Waters and cleans landscaped areas and field turf, as directed.
- Performs visual walk-through of park facilities and equipment; reports any items in visible state of disrepair or disfunction to the supervisor immediately.
- Actively scans the park, including the playground area, for unsafe conditions and/or potential safety hazards and reports such issues to the park supervisor.
- Assists in the set-up or as may be needed coordination of special events, recreational programming and/or all other specified activity.
- Performs related work as required by the supervisor.
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of (6) months experience in customer service required.
- Prior experience in custodial and/or maintenance work preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Work is primarily performed outdoors in all climate conditions with full exposure to the elements; some work may also be performed indoors.
- Requires physical strength and agility to perform assigned tasks, which include, but are not limited to, bending, twisting, walking, climbing, reaching, lifting, moving or carrying objects which may weigh more than 25 pounds.
- May be exposed to chemicals, solvents, dust, grease/oil, fumes, vibration and noise.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Must be able to hear clearly even in a noisy environment.
- Must have the manual dexterity to operate a variety of hand and power tools, such as a powered blower.
