Key Responsibilities
As a Clerk Typist you will greet, screen, and directs visitors, answer and route routine verbal and written inquiries, initiate, answer and screen telephone calls, and route and relay telephone message complaints. In addition, this position will maintain filing system; prepare file folders; purges and back files inactive files; cross-indexes files; retrieves and returns file information; prepares reports and data from file information; maintains other department records. You will also accept payment of fees and fines, compose and type correspondence; complete various reports and other documents; proofread and correct errors; prepare outgoing mail; make photocopies; and perform other miscellaneous and specialized assignments.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
High school diploma or GED required as well as at least one year of experience in an office environment performing clerical and secretarial duties. Courses in typing are preferred. Requires thorough knowledge of Business English, secretarial procedures and practices, and principles of office management. Requires the ability to follow complex oral and written directions; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to maintain complex clerical records and prepare reports from such records; ability to make decisions in accordance with ordinances, regulations, and established policies where errors could result in additional costs to the Village. The ability to make relatively complex mathematical computations rapidly and accurately; ability to plan and supervise the work of others is also required.
This position will be scheduled 20-29 hours per week, depending on operational needs.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly pay rate is $17.42 - $21.81, depending on experience and qualifications.
This position is an IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) eligible position.
