We are currently hiring Public Works Full-Time Worker/Laborers to join the Village of Monee Public Works Team. The ideal team member for this position will be a face of our Public Works team and will act as a representative of the department.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification, incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Responsible for the operation of a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.

2. Manual labor activities as directed and needed as required by the Public Works Department.

3. Performs ground maintenance including restoration and other duties as needed including, but not limited to, park grounds maintenance, installing sod, etc.

4. Grounds care including, mowing grass, pruning trees and hedges; planting trees as required, clean up litter and empty trash cans as required.

5. Assists with the preparations and tear-down/clean-up for events, festivals, and special functions.

6. Operates a variety of light and heavy duty equipment.

7. Operates snow removal equipment.

8. Road maintenance.

9. Road care including sweeping and clean up materials from roads, as well as snow and ice removal including manual snow shoveling.

10. Performs pavement repairs, erects and dismantles barricades, sets up pumps and collects and removes storm debris during emergencies.

11. Maintenance of sanitary and storm sewers including repairs and/or conducting maintenance procedures.

12. Installs repairs and maintains water delivery and wastewater collections systems including installation of water mains and repairs to water/sewer mains.

13. Inspects, cleans and rebuilds storm and waste water collections sewers and manholes.

14. Installs, inspects, and repairs fire hydrants.

15. Inspects, tests, repairs, and replaces water main valves.

16. Locates and marks Village owned utilities.

17. Operates B-boxes on/off along with repairs to the same.

18. Cleans, jets, and root cut storm and sanitary sewers as well as lift stations.

19. Cleans equipment and vehicles, performs minor building and grounds maintenance requiring limited carpentry, painting, plumbing, or concrete finishing skills.

20. All other Public Works’ related work duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned with a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

· General knowledge of maintenance type operations applicable to buildings, grounds, and public infrastructure.

· Knowledge of tools, materials, and methods related to Building and Grounds maintenance.

· Ability to interact with others including the public in a reasonable and courteous manner

· Ability to work within a chain of command

· Ability to demonstrate personal discipline qualities to perform required work

· Ability to lift and /or carry up to 90 lbs.

· Ability to work independently or as a team

· Physical ability to sit, walk, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch

· Possession of good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of the position and wear provided safety equipment as required.

· Ability to drive light to medium duty trucks and equipment.

· Ability to communicate effectively.

· Must be honest, trustworthy and reliable.

· Availability for after hour call out emergencies, including but not limited to, snowfall, floods, downed trees, water main breaks, or as deemed necessary by the Public Work Department.

Education and/or Other Requirements

· Minimum - High School diploma or GED equivalent.

· Must be a minimum of 18 years old.

· Must possess a valid Driver’s License/CDL is a plus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will encounter inclement weather, dust, dirt, noise, vibration, unpleasant odors and close working quarters.

Hours of Employment

· Full –Time Normal Hours (may be subject to change).

· Availability for after-hour call out emergencies, including but not limited to, snowfall, floods, downed trees, water main breaks, or as deemed necessary by the Public Work Department.

Pay Rate: $21.12 or commensurate with experience (Union wage)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $21.12 per hour
