Description of Primary Purpose: The Village of Libertyville is seeking a qualified individual to fill the part-time vacancy in its Police Department. Community Service Officers (CSOs) provide a wide variety of field and administrative support to law enforcement staff and the public. The position involves a significant amount of public contact, with high levels of customer service being a priority. CSOs conduct parking enforcement; handle animal, non-criminal, and private property accident complaints; provide vehicle and pedestrian traffic control; and various other administrative duties.

- Hears and respond to calls for service, taking action where appropriate;
- Provides motorist assist;
- Responds to animal complaints and calls to service;
- Provides house/business extra watch patrols;
- Assists with private property accidents (investigations);
- Provides information to persons who request information or assistance within the scope of the assigned duties;
- Assists and provides traffic direction as needed/requested;
- Issue local ordinance violations, citations, and appear in court and testify professionally and impartially when necessary;
- Performs vehicular and pedestrian traffic control;
- Performs assigned school crossing guard functions (if needed);
- Performs courier duties by picking up and delivering circuit court material to and from neighboring departments and the circuit court of Lake County;
- Assist with department community service projects and programs;
- METRA Parking lot-collection of money and deposits.
General Education, Experience, and License Requirements:
- H.S. diploma/GED or equivalent (college preferred)
- Valid driver’s license
- Excellent communication, written and customer service skills
- Basic knowledge of computers and common Office software
- Requires ability to exercise discretion and judgement, and work independently following\established guidelines and procedures
- Requires ability to maintain confidentiality of information and sensitive material.
