Village Engineer / Director of Public Works

The Village of Heyworth is seeking a civil Engineer to lead municipal engineering operations and supervise the Building and Zoning Department. Qualified candidates may also be considered for appointment as Director of Public Works, an additional administrative leadership role with a different salary range. Applicants are encouraged to specify whether they have interest in being the Director of Public Works at the time of application.

The Engineer, as the lead supervisor of the Building and Zoning Department, will be the direct supervisor of the Building Inspector and Code Compliance Officer as well as prepare and oversee the Building and Zoning Department budget. The Director must demonstrate strong leadership, coordinate projects and assignments effectively, and oversee the consolidation and prioritization of budgets and needs across Public Works departments. The Director will supervise the Superintendent of Parks and Facilities and the Superintendent of Public Works, each of whom will manage the day-to-day operations of their respective departments. The Director will coordinate Public Works project planning, oversee the budgets prepared by each department, and address personnel matters involving those supervisory positions. The Director duties are expected to account for less than 25% of the Engineer’s time. Eligibility for the dual role will be determined based on the applicant’s supervisory and leadership experience and abilities.
