JOB SUMMARY
We are hiring for the Spring and Summer season of 2025
There are openings in the following divisions:
- Water
- Wastewater
- Sewage Treatment
- Streets
- Forestry
For each year that a seasonal employee returns to work, they will receive a $0.50 per hour pay increase.
Work Schedule
Status: Seasonal/Temporary
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
(Some flexibility is available for a limited number of positions.)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, provides general labor to the Public Works Department.
The seasonal worker will perform duties normally assigned to regular maintenance staff during the off-season.
If assigned to:
Forestry
- Turf care, lawn mowing, weeding, and watering using standing lawnmowers and weed eaters
- Tree and shrub pruning using hand tools
- Brush pick-up (feeding brush into a chipper)
- Light mechanical work or maintenance on equipment
Reports to: Street-Forestry Supervisor – Forestry Division
Sewage Treatment
- Lawn mowing and general grounds maintenance
- Painting, mopping floors, and hosing tanks
Reports to: Wastewater Treatment Supervisor – Sewage Treatment Division
Streets
- Storm sewer system: Jetting storm pipe, cleaning/patching basins, assisting with basin rebuilding
- Curb, gutter & sidewalk repairs: Assisting with removal, sub base prep, forming, pouring, and finishing concrete
- Asphalt repairs: Saw cutting, removal, base prep, installation, and cleanup
- Pothole patching: Filling pavement holes with cold mix asphalt
- Yard repairs: Soil removal, installing topsoil, planting sod or grass seed
- Sign work: Removing old signs, making and installing new ones
- Graffiti removal: Cleaning surfaces using soda blaster and repairing via painting, staining, or sanding
- Street maintenance: Using shovels, picks, rakes, and related tools
Reports to: Street-Forestry Supervisor – Streets Division
Water / Sewers / Meters
- Meter reading in residential and commercial areas using a Uni-gun
- Painting fire hydrants
- Assisting in sewer maintenance and "Buffalo Box" repairs using shovels
- Yard restoration with shovels and rakes
Reports to: Water Supervisor
Wells
- Clean-up and painting
- Yard work including grass cutting and trimming bushes
- Assisting water plant operators
Reports to: Water Supervisor
Additional Duties:
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the enumerated duties
- Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures
- Report unsafe conditions and acts to the supervisor
- Report all accidents immediately or no later than the end of the work shift
- Follow recognized safe work practices
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION &/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
Must possess and maintain in good standing a valid Driver's License.
