The Village of Fairport Department of Public Works serves the residents by providing street, sidewalk and parking lot maintenance, facilities maintenance, snow removal, parks maintenance, sanitary sewer maintenance, refuse collection, drainage and storm water management, and tree maintenance. We currently have open positions for skilled and non-skilled personnel.
The Village of Fairport is a mature and progressive community located in Monroe County, New York, approximately eleven (11) miles southeast of downtown Rochester. The Village is surrounded by the Town of Perinton and is adjacent to the neighboring municipalities of Penfield to the North, Pittsford to the West, Egypt and Macedon to the East, and Victor to the South. The Village provides a full range of services including police, fire, and municipal electric. The Department of
Public Works has 14 employees.
All Department of Public Works openings are Monroe County civil service positions. Work includes, but is not limited to: refuse collection operations; construction and preventative maintenance activities on roads, sidewalks, curbs, parking lots, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers; capital improvement and construction projects; facilities and grounds maintenance; snow removal operations; landscape and tree maintenance; operation of equipment and vehicles; equipment preventative maintenance and repair. This position requires considerable outdoor work. Work is conducted on or near heavy equipment, on construction sites, at emergency scenes, in all weather conditions, and during all hours of the day.
The Village of Fairport is seeking a professional individual who possesses the following minimum qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. Possession of a NYS Class B Commercial
Driver’s License or possession of a NYS Class D license and the ability to obtain a NYS Class B Commercial Driver’s License within twelve (12) months of date of employment and the ability maintain the CDL throughout the term of employment.
Credible knowledge of construction techniques and methods for the construction and preventative maintenance of roads, sidewalks, sewers, and shoulder treatments; credible knowledge of basic techniques and methods for masonry, plumbing, carpentry, welding, equipment preventative maintenance and repair, cleaning and building maintenance, and landscape and tree care; skill in the use of hand and power tools; ability to operate as part of a team and project a positive attitude; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to learn new skills quickly and efficiently; willingness to work in all weather conditions and report for emergencies; ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment; ability to follow safety procedures and recognize hazards; physical strength and stamina to perform arduous manual labor; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Compensation for the position is commiserate with skills and experience. Salary ranges from $19.36 - $30.06 / hour and applicants can expect to work 40 hours/week with a highly competitive benefits package.
