Fitness Instructor

Purpose of Position
The Group Fitness Instructor will be responsible for providing fun, effective, and safe group exercise to members participating in the program.  They are paid $20 to $25 per hour based on experience and certifications.

Position Accountability
General day-to-day supervision, administrative direction, and performance evaluation will be received from the Deputy Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Director.

Supervision Exercised
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Term of Employment
This position is a seasonal position.  Class times will vary throughout the year and will be scheduled in coordination with the Deputy Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Director.The following duties are normal for the position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.

• Instruct a class that is geared for all fitness levels.
• Maintain a positive and professional attitude toward responsibilities and participants.
• Arrive prior to class start time to set up, orient new participants and interact with participants.
• Utilize rosters to ensure each participant is registered for class and attending class.
• Communicate effectively with the Recreation Supervisor to ensure quality programming and participants’ experiences.
• Evaluate program facilities and report potential hazards, inadequate equipment, etc. to the Deputy Parks & Recreation Director.
• Anticipate potential risks of injury, take measures to remove them, and in the event of injury, can implement emergency medical procedures.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Maintain appropriate certification for class delivery.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification is strongly preferred.
• At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred.
• Strong ability to manage safety among a class with a variety of fitness levels, while maintaining a challenge for all levels.

• Ability to move and instruct as the class requires.

Salary : $20 - $25
