What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operator/Operator-in-Training position at Village of Bloomington?
The Village of Bloomington is seeking a motivated and dependable Operator to assist with the operation and maintenance of the Village's water utility, wastewater treatment facility, streets, parks, and public infrastructure. This position plays an important role in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable public services for our residents.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater systems
- Perform routine inspections of streets, parks, municipal facilities, equipment, and vehicles
- Participate in water main, sewer line, hydrant, valve, and storm drain maintenance
- Conduct water sampling, testing, recordkeeping, and reporting
- Assist with equipment and vehicle maintenance
- Perform snow removal, street maintenance, mowing, and seasonal public works duties
- Maintain parks, park facilities, and public property
- Operate trucks, snowplows, tractors, mowers, backhoes, and other equipment
- Maintain daily logs and records of inspections and work completed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license required
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within a reasonable timeframe
- Ability to obtain Wisconsin DNR Water and Wastewater Operator Certifications
- General knowledge of public works operations and maintenance preferred
- Experience with carpentry, plumbing, welding, electrical work, cement work, or vehicle maintenance is beneficial
- Ability to operate a variety of tools, vehicles, and equipment
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and email
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to respond within 30 minutes for emergencies, snow removal, and on-call situations
