About Village Bank

Village Bank is a well-respected local community bank with four locations. Our passion for community banking stems from our desire to help people, both our valued employees and our growing community. We’re here to help connect banking services with the businesses that need them and we do this by listening, collaborating and inspiring. We’re pioneering a better way forward and we are excited about the path ahead.

About the Role

The Sr. Human Resources Generalist implements all aspects of day-to-day HR, including the development, oversight, and execution of policies, programs, and practices across the full spectrum of HR disciplines, with support from internal and external resources, including the PEO, as needed. This role is responsible for creating an engaging, inclusive, and compliant work environment that attracts and retains top talent, and must maintain current knowledge of employment law, benefits, insurance, safety regulations, and best practices in human resources and talent management to ensure ongoing organizational compliance.

This is an HR department of one, a high-ownership role that balances strategic thinking with hands-on execution across all HR functions. Village Bank has four locations (Blaine, Anoka, East Bethel, and St. Francis); this role is an in-office position and visits each location regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and managers — a trusted, confidential advisor on employment matters, HR practices, and Bank policy; coach managers on compliant, consistent policy application
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; maintain the Employee Handbook, personnel files, I-9s, and all HR records in accordance with applicable retention requirements
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting: determine platforms, post positions, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, conduct reference and background checks, and manage the offer and onboarding process
  • Maintain working knowledge of external market data to support competitive pay ranges; participate in salary surveys and support FLSA classification reviews
  • Administer benefits programs including enrollment, qualifying events, open enrollment coordination, COBRA, and ongoing employee communications; partner with the CXO, CFO, and benefits broker to ensure competitive, high-value offerings
  • Manage employee leaves of absence (FMLA, MN Paid Leave) and Workers' Compensation processes in coordination with the PEO
  • Assist the Payroll Specialist as needed; provide post-payroll reporting to the Controller for 401(k), HSA, and other benefit deductions
  • Develop and maintain strong employee relations practices; coach managers through corrective action, conduct investigations, and administer the Bank's performance management program including the annual review process and development planning
  • Partner with the CXO and Bank leaders to support training needs, career pathing, and succession planning; provide organization-wide training on HR-related topics
  • Manage the full separation process: exit interviews, separation letters, system notifications, and unemployment response

 Qualifications

To be considered you must have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field preferred
  • 8 years of broad-based HR management experience, including day-to-day responsibility across all HR functions
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law, compensation, recruitment, employee relations, benefits, and compliance
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to lead difficult conversations with professionalism and discretion
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted, knowledgeable resource and a respected member of the leadership team, and able to lead with influence.

The following qualifications will be a strong differentiator

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field preferred
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or ADP TotalSource a plus
  • SHRM or HRCI credential preferred; experience in an HR department of one is a strong differentiator

What we Offer

  • Competitive pay based on qualifications and previous work experience.
  • Comprehensive benefit plans including medical, dental, vision, disability, HSA match, FSA, and more.
  • 401(k) plan with a company match of up to 4%
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Paid volunteer time - volunteering in the community is woven into our culture
  • A true community-focused culture with work-life balance
