 Jay Street – Hope on the Horizon and Hope Place; Clinic
 Williamson – Tuckahoe Community Residence

JOB SUMMARY

The Direct Support Relief Floater (All Shifts) provides flexible, on-demand coverage across multiple programs and locations to ensure continuity of care, safety, and supervision of youth and adults in treatment, residential, and educational settings. This role supports evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts and requires the ability to adapt quickly to varying program environments, client needs, and operational expectations.

Relief Floaters are required to work a minimum of one (1) eight-hour shift per week, unless otherwise approved by the Floater Manager or Program Director, and must be available to support staffing needs across departments during periods of coverage gaps or shortages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide direct support, supervision, and engagement for youth and adults in residential, treatment, and educational program settings.

• Assist with daily routines, therapeutic activities, classroom support, and structured programming to promote safety, stability, and positive outcomes.

• Monitor client behavior, maintain a safe and orderly environment, and intervene in crisis situations using agency-approved de-escalation and intervention techniques.

• Support program staff with admissions, intakes, orientations, and client transitions as assigned.

• Escort and transport clients between program activities, appointments, and community-based services as required.

• Serve as a positive role model by modeling appropriate behavior, professionalism, and healthy interpersonal skills.

• Accurately complete all required documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and shift communication logs, in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.

• Participate in required training, supervision, and staff meetings to maintain competency and compliance with agency policies and state regulations.

• Demonstrate cultural competence, respect, and responsiveness to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

• Fulfill all legal and ethical responsibilities as a Mandated Reporter under New York State law.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCHEDULING EXPECTATIONS

• Maintain availability and work a minimum of one (1) shift per week, unless otherwise approved by the Floater Manager or Program Director.

• Be willing and able to work across all assigned departments and programs based on staffing needs, coverage requirements, and operational shortages.

• Overtime is not guaranteed and must receive prior approval from the Floater Manager or designee. Overtime will be authorized only during periods of critical staffing need or emergency coverage.

• Promptly and professionally communicate with the appropriate Program Manager and the Floater Manager regarding call-ins, late arrivals, early departures, or any changes in availability.

• Failure to meet minimum shift requirements, accept reasonable work assignments, or communicate scheduling issues in a timely and professional manner may result in corrective action, up to and including termination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED required.
 • Previous experience in human services, education, healthcare, or a related field strongly preferred.
 • CPR certification required (training provided if not currently certified).
 • Valid New York State Driver’s License required.
 • Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, and ability to work independently across varied environments.
 • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
 • Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during crisis situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and climb stairs.
 • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with client care activities as needed.
 • Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies and physically intervene using agency-approved techniques.
