Opportunity Statement: Social Justice and Service Learning Coordinator

Villa Academy seeks a dynamic and reflective educator to serve as the school’s Social Justice and Service Learning Coordinator. Guided by Villa’s mission, this role serves to strengthen students’ understanding of social justice through classroom learning and service projects.

This position offers the opportunity to design and teach a social justice curriculum in alignment with the , including twice-weekly classes for Grades 5 and 6 and once-weekly classes for Grades 7 and 8. Through these courses, students will explore theories of justice, drawing on philosophical, religious, and legal perspectives, while examining pressing local issues within broader national and global contexts.

The development of the Social Justice curriculum also includes strengthening and implementing service learning at Villa Academy as we work to prepare students for lives of service and purpose. This includes researching and cultivating community partnerships, designing impactful service opportunities connected to curricular themes, and ensuring that experiences are reciprocal, reflective, and rooted in authentic community needs. The Coordinator will also collaborate with Preschool and Lower School faculty to support the integration of meaningful, age-appropriate service learning, helping to build a cohesive preschool–8 approach to justice and service.

This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about social justice, skilled in interdisciplinary curriculum design, and committed to guiding students as thoughtful, compassionate contributors to their communities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach the Middle School Social Justice Curriculum to 5th-8th graders including service learning projects that align with the curriculum
  • Collaborate with Villa faculty and the Director of Teaching and Learning for Inquiry and Equity to design meaningful opportunities for service learning in alignment with Villa’s values: belonging, discovery, responsibility, and purpose.
  • Serve as a Middle School Advisor
  • In partnership with the Director of Teaching and Learning for Inquiry and Equity, develop and oversee the Villa service learning scope and sequence, including researching potential community partners
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a school-wide Community Service Day.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in History, Religious Studies, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree and/or teaching credential preferred.
  • 2 years of teaching experience, preferably with Middle School students.
  • Knowledge of best practices in Middle School service learning or related experience
  • In-depth understanding of, and experience with, inquiry-based learning in education settings.
  • Passion for working with Middle School students, with a deep understanding of their developmental needs and learning styles.
  • Proven ability to implement effective classroom support strategies and foster positive relationships with young learners.
  • ​​Excellent communication skills for working with students, parents, faculty/staff, and campus partners.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional growth, curiosity, cultural humility, and antiracism, as well as an understanding of its critical role in academic excellence and student growth.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $54,900.85–$126,246.40 annually, in accordance with the Villa Academy Faculty Salary Scale and based on education and experience.
