BRIEF JOB SUMMARY:
The New Product Development Project Manager will oversee the lifecycle of product development from ideation to launch, coordinating the cross-functional teams (Research and Development, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality, Product Data Management, Planning, Production, Marketing, and Sales) to meet scope, budget and timeline goals.
The position requires a significant blend of business and technical experience, requiring knowledge of Viking products as well as broad knowledge of the various business units and their functions.
The Project Manager is a strategic role and places emphasis on product launch effectiveness and efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Ensures project objectives align to overall business strategies
- Coordinates with Viking internal and external customers to define project scope, product launch budgets and timelines, ensuring projects are completed on-time and at budget.
- Provides cross-functional leadership coordinating with all functions to identify project resources required for successful launch, including people, material, process, equipment, and expenses, and ensure alignment through the process.
- Responsible for development of overall project timelines to understand critical path of the project. Will work with all functions to set realistic project timeline and goals. These individual plans include project cost(s), resources requirements and timelines.
- Create and monitor critical project requirements and milestones per Viking’s New Product Development Process.
- Dotted line leadership of cross-functional team to meet project objectives.
- Ownership of tools and processes required to support new product launch, including JIRA, Confluence and the New Product Introduction process, and Engineering Change Process.
- Responsible for ensuring all departments are accountable to deliverables to complete the overall project goals and objectives.
- Lead project review meetings, as required, to remove roadblocks, conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective actions for any deviations to project plans.
- Lead risk mitigation activities by effectively identifying, assessing, and developing contingency plan(s) in the case technical, timeline or budget challenges arise.
- Provide project progress, risks and mitigation plans to the stakeholders involved in the project, including updates to the Executive Management Team.
- Improve New Product Introduction productivity by addressing deficiencies and implementing changes in tools, training, processes, reporting and employee engagement as required.
- Provide post-launch evaluation and reporting of actual results against initial product assumptions and goals.
- Demonstrate commitment and pro-active adherence to company policies, statutory policies and relevant government regulations.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience in Project Management, specifically within product development. 7 years preferred.
- B.S. in Engineering or related field.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to influence teams and present to stakeholders.
- Proficiency in project management software (JIRA, MS Project, Confluence preferred).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
- Manages time efficiently.
- Must be dependable, very organized and demonstrate a strong attention to detail.
- Capable of reading and interpreting product blueprints. Interpretation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Considerable mental/visual concentration, coordinating manual dexterity with mental/visual attention.
- Able to work in a lab or production environment.
