What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator | 2nd Shift position at VIKING CORPORATION?
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reads process sheets, blueprints and sketches of parts to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set-up and operating requirements.
- Uses measuring instruments such as micrometers, indicators, rules, gauges, verniers, etc.
- Operates coordinate measuring machines and other electronic gauging instruments.
- Mounts, aligns and secures tooling, attachments and work pieces on machine.
- Pre-sets and installs preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet.
- Starts and stops machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
- Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates and speeds of machining cuts.
- Loads control media such as tape, cards and disks, in machine controller and/or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database.
- Turns dials and switches to override control and correct machine performance.
- Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
- Conducts SPC studies.
- Performs and assists with machine capability studies.
- Studies job packets and organizes materials for next run during controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
- Sets-up and operates all machine tools within a work-cell.
- Performs assembly, test and associated operations as required within the work-cell.
- Assists with programming of the machines, proving programs and optimizing programs.
- Trains and assists machine attendants.
- Stops machine to change cutting tools and set-up according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications.
- Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
- Discusses control media errors with supervisors or engineers to resolve problems.
- Cleans machine, tooling and parts.
- Performs machine maintenance activities.
- Meets all quality requirements of the job.
- Maintains a clean and orderly workplace.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
