Overview:
The Maintenance Engineer's primary objective is to ensure that production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and consistently at the required speed and quality. We are seeking a detail-oriented professional with hands-on experience in supplement manufacturing and packaging operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of legislation and regulations within the dietary supplement and food industry, along with core food safety requirements. They should be highly skilled in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs, creating comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and maintaining strict compliance with safety protocols. This role requires a proactive problem-solver who can enhance production efficiency, strengthen equipment reliability, and uphold regulatory compliance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This individual is required to follow cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices), all Standard Operating Procedures, and Food Safety Regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections and servicing to maintain equipment reliability and compliance.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Drive performance improvements to control, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance plans to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and regulations in the dietary supplement and food industry, including Food Safety, Health & Safety, SQF, GMP, HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP.
- Provide support for spare parts management: JDE spare parts management, material incoming, maintenance of warehouse order status; notifies system gaps, suggests improvements.
- Maintain documentation, SOPs, equipment records, chemical safety data, and spare parts inventories; identify and suggest process improvements.
- Support troubleshooting, emergency interventions, and systematic problem-solving for GMP and non-GMP equipment.
- Provide and ensure support for critical spare parts analysis and preventive maintenance plan of new installation equipment and systems, collaborating with plant engineering and reliability engineering
- Ensure full compliance with all company policies, EHS rules and authority regulations
- Apply knowledge of cleaning and hygiene standards (CIP/COP), quality management systems, and Continuous Improvement (CI) practices.
- Draft and manage maintenance contracts, coordinate vendor activities, and support cross-shift communication on plant status and issues.
- Ensure compliance with lockout/tagout (LOTO) and other safety procedures to protect employees and maintain OSHA standards.
- Partner with production teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and documentation.
- Assist in equipment installation, upgrades, and validation as needed.
- Comply with health and safety regulations in an FDA-regulated environment.
Qualifications:
- Preferred maintenance engineering experience in supplement, food, pharmaceutical, or nutraceutical packaging environments.
- Understanding of basic principles related to sustainability and environmental legislation
- Experience creating and managing preventive maintenance programs.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Comfortable working while wearing PPE: laboratory coats, gloves, hard hats, and respirators in controlled areas.
- Basic understanding of quality management systems/processes, and principles of Continuous Improvement (CI) Management
- Able to read facility site plans, electrical wiring diagrams, control logic and mechanical drawings.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred; equivalent technical experience will be considered.
- 5 years experience as maintenance engineer or similar role.
Physical Requirements:
