As we expand our footprint into Virginia Beach, we’re looking for a hands-on Accounting Manager who can lead the accounting function, support leadership, and help build a solid financial foundation for the next stage of growth.
Position Overview
The Accounting Manager will oversee all accounting operations across the company, including financial reporting, month-end close, job costing, inventory management, tax compliance, and support with audits. This is a key leadership role that requires a strong mix of technical accounting skills, operational awareness, and the ability to work in a fast-moving, high-growth environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable rolling up their sleeves.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the full accounting cycle, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close
- Maintain accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
- Oversee AP, AR, payroll entries, and bank reconciliations
- Manage job costing, project expense tracking, and revenue recognition for government and commercial contracts
- Maintain inventory, vendor prepayments, and related reconciliations
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and management reports for leadership
- Support tax filings, including coordination with outside CPA firms
- Assist with financial audits and compliance requirements (including government-related controls when applicable)
- Improve internal processes, accounting controls, and documentation
- Work closely with operations, purchasing, HR, and leadership to support day-to-day decision-making
- Support ERP/JobTread/QuickBooks data accuracy and reporting needs
- Manage and mentor junior accounting staff as the department grows
- Partner with Sales and other departments to support them with quotes, job costing, pricing analysis, and financial guidance for customer proposals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
- 5 years of accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing, government contracting, or a fast-growing operational environment
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP
- Experience with job costing, inventory accounting, and multi-entity structures is a plus
- Experience working in QuickBooks Online
- Experience working in JobTread is helpful but not required
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills and a problem-solving mindset
