Computer Science Teacher
Certification & Qualifications
Required Certification:
Candidates must meet Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification requirements for teaching computer science at the elementary level. Eligible certifications include:
- Elementary K-6, Grades PK-4, or Grades 4-8 (with recommended training in computer science)
- Middle Level Math and Science 6-9
- Computer Science 7-12
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Eligible for employment in Pennsylvania public schools
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to differentiate instruction
- Commitment to bilingual, multicultural education
- Passion for teaching, learning, and inspiring children
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 2 years of teaching experience
- Experience with Scratch, HTML, and foundational coding concepts

Position Summary
Vida Charter School is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Computer Science Teacher to engage and inspire students in K-6th grade. The ideal candidate will foster a love for technology, logic, and problem-solving while integrating a bilingual and multicultural approach to instruction. This is a full time position in a diverse, dual-language learning environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Guide instruction in English or Spanish
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the school’s bilingual, dual-language learning approach.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes pride in bilingualism and academic excellence. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and encourage intellectual growth.
Topics include:
- Basic computer skills, including navigating Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Classroom
- Internet functionality and digital communication
- Introductory web design using HTML
- Programming basics with Scratch (drag-and-drop coding)
- Typing skills and keyboarding proficiency
- Digital literacy, including navigating technology safely and critically evaluating online information (e.g., recognizing misinformation, understanding AI, and the impact of social media)
- Cyberbullying awareness and digital citizenship, helping students understand respectful online behavior, the consequences of cyberbullying, and how to stay safe online
- Initiate and lead extracurricular programs, such as technology clubs or coding initiatives
- Assist with occasional school duties, including school-wide events
- Supervise individual students and groups as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
