Position Summary:
VCA is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Middle School Social Studies Teacher to join our faculty. The teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in social studies including an integrated study of economics, geography, history, political science, and the behavioral sciences of psychology, sociology, and anthropology to promote civic competence and critical thinking. The ideal candidate will integrate Christian principles into their teaching while maintaining high academic standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with federal, state, and VCA educational standards for middle school Social Studies.
- Teach students to become informed, engaged civic participants able to apply the skills of inquiry, collaboration, decision making, and problem solving.
- Use engaging instructional strategies to support different learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic).
- Encourage student enthusiasm and the development of effective study and civic habits.
- Integrate a Christ-centered approach in all curriculum and teaching materials.
- Identify learning obstacles and provide academic, emotional, and spiritual support.
- Maintain an "In My Absence" binder with lesson plans and essential instructions for substitutes.
- Monitor student use of technology for academic purposes.
Classroom Management:
- Establish and enforce clear classroom procedures and expectations.
- Implement a structured discipline plan to address and modify student behavior.
- Work collaboratively with educational aides, faculty, and administration to support student success.
- Supervise students throughout the school day in designated areas.
- Demonstrate fairness, love, and Christ-centered discipline.
Professional Development:
- Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Participate in team collaboration and school accreditation efforts.
- Commit to continuous improvement through professional growth and learning.
Reporting & Communication:
- Maintain accurate academic and behavioral records for each student.
- Communicate with parents regularly regarding student progress and concerns.
- Submit progress reports, report cards, and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Use professional and respectful communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Adhere to mandatory reporting policies and maintain student confidentiality.
Operations & School Community Engagement:
- Follow VCA policies and guidelines as outlined in employee and student handbooks.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
- Assist with student supervision during lunch, chapel, recess, and other activities.
- Participate in at least two school-sponsored recruitment events.
- Serve as an ambassador for VCA in the school and community.
Ethical & Moral Conduct:
- Model Christian values in personal and professional behavior.
- Demonstrate high ethical and moral standards in decision-making and interactions.
Performance Evaluation:
- Participate in regular classroom observations and performance reviews.
- Work closely with the Teaching and Learning Team to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Receive formal evaluations as outlined in the Teacher Supervision Plan.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Education, or a related field (required).
- Teaching certification preferred.
- Prior teaching experience in middle school Social Studies, preferably in a Christian school setting.
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
- Commitment to Christian education and integration of faith in teaching.
